My organization (The Association of Professional Model Makers) will be hosting a 4 day conference in Dayton Ohio from March 3rd through March 6th. Two days will be filled with workshops and seminars (24 in total), led by practicing professional model makers, teaching such topics as small-scale electroplating, 3D scanning, prototyping with fabric, mother mold fabrication, vacuum forming, 3D printed mold making, as well as sessions focusing on shop safety, management practices for small and large model shops, and many other topics. The other two days will be filled with tours of local model shops, giving behind-the-scenes access to see how fellow pro makers are making.

If you're making a living off your prop work or replicas (or hope to some day), this conference may be a great fit for you. It's a great chance to compare notes and talk with fellow makers who earn a living from their talents, network, see how other makers are practicing their craft, build up your own skillset, even get a sense of just how big the world of model making is and where opportunities lie within it.
