Gerry Anderson - UFO TV Series - Shado Pistol replica build

I think you did a great job on this Gordon even it hadn't been your first attempt (it was). Obviously you learned a lot too.

Peter

Thanks Peter !!

I am still learning some hard lessons:

- TEST the seal the first time you use a mold - BEFORE you pour liquid resin into it. The liqiud resin will let you know if you misaligned the seal by running out of the mold where you forgot to clamp it. :eek

- Not all resins are compatable with all molds, sealers, and release agents. I tried alumilite with Ease release 200 and an OOMOO RTV mold. (luckily it was on a test mold - the chemical mess and gasses released probably damaged the enviroment for a hundred years.) :cry

- Finally got the technique of a slow pour into the mold - there were only a few tiny bubbles at the opening at the top. YEAH !!!! :cheers

I am off this weekend - trying to cast a for test kits off these molds. :love

I have the original pistol out on the shelf and when guests come in - everyone has to pick it and wave it around the room. My son and his friends are home from college - and have NEVER seen UFO - they still like the prop. They all look at it and think it is cool. They are a little too old to appreciate the UFO series days. But the UFO pistol is still a unique prop.

I will posts pics when they come out of the mold. :love:lol

Thanks for the reply's and the interest. !!!!

OK - I finally did it !!! My first cast !!! :lol

Here are the pics. I will be pouring about ten over the weekend. The sMooth on 321 is AWESOME ! It turned out better than I hoped. I little sanding, a few tiny air bubbles on one side (three minutes with filler) and you have a perfect UFO pitsol !!! :love:eek

Take a look at the pics and tell me what you think!! :confused

Hi Gordon. That has come out really well and you're right it is a big pistol. I'm sure you have bigger hands than I so it would look huge in my hand. I must say though that the turned metal flash hider really does make the original. Anyway nice job and I'm glad you've had some time recently to work on your props.

Here's a toy pistol (Taiwan, year and maker unknown) with battery powered gunshot and ricochet effects that always kind of reminded me of the SHADO pistol. Not a direct copy but very similar, I think. And rare, I believe.

UFO had more than one SHADO pistol - the acoustic gun - is smaller. The security SHADO pistol is larger - The angle of the attached photo in the prior post makes the pistol look larger than it is. Look at the ealier post of the GLOCK pistol for scale. I have some screen caps. I will post them later. you can see it is larger than the one Straker uses to frighten Col Foster.

Great job Gordon! It looks VERY clean!
You know "I'm" on the list for one!
Cheers, Jeff

I gotcha Jeff. Working out this process of casting. I learn something each time I try it. I will PM you they are ready. I am excited about getting started on Version 2 and the acoustic gun version.

THANKS for the kind words !! :love

Keep me in mind if when you get to the rifle! Great work!

The Rifle will be along soon - but I want to perfect the two pistols. I have started the work. I will make the rifle. SOON !!

The Aluminum Flash Hider on the original looks great - but the rich detail comes out with a top coat of metalic silver. The reproduction casts look great with minimal work. :cool

I know you've spent a long time on this as you were working on it when we first "met" on the RPF. It's really good to see your persistence pay off and now you have something to show for it and learned a lot along the way. I don't think anyone is completely happy with his first attempt at anything but you can be happy with how this has turned out.

Happy I am !!!

Thanks Peter !!

Attached are screen caps from the series for details used in making this gun.

I decided to kit bash one of the kits and cut down the flash hider/supressor to the Acoustic gun size version. Four cuts, ten minutes and a little epoxy turned it into a fair Acoustic version.
