"Concept" Phase Weapon by Kenney's Custom Props, LLC

Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness "Concept" Phaser by Kenney's Custom Props, LLC

@redhirt - I see you haven't been killed off yet. :) (sorry, couldn't resist. If it makes you feel better, I still get the "OMG... they killed Kenney" crap. lol

Anyway, the colors on my concept are actually original colors used for the TOS phasers...... well, at least that's what I was told by a person that had access to one of the originals. That's really the only reason why I chose the colors.... was for the fans. The color really don't mean anything... they were not intended to be "the colors" to use if we ended up running with this phaser for the film. If you look really close, I didn't spend a great deal of time on sanding or finishing..... this was ONLY to be a concept piece. I would have ultimately used aluminum and some other materials for the actual hero props. So, everything you guys have mentioned with respect to finishes.... I think are great ideas. Most of the parts are pretty complex in geometry so machining would get expensive. For those that know me.... I favor 3D printing a lot in addition to cnc machining. That's why I get complex with my parts cause I know I can print just about any complex piece. It amazing what 3D print technology can do. Isn't it funny that in the Star Trek universe they have replicators..... and in this day and time I printed up all those parts for a prop in the Star Trek universe?

A little video on how some of the parts of the target sight mechanics function.

Can someone please tell me why my pics won't show except for a link? Am I uploading wrong?

For pics I use my flickr account, upload them there and paste the image tag into my threads here, works everyte, alittle more work though.

You need to isolate each image to the URL that ends with the file type. For example, if you uploaded a JPG, you need to isolate the URL so that it ends with .jpg, and nothing after. Then you put that URL inside the [ img ][/ img ] brackets.

Has Christmas come early? That has all a fan could want in a new version of the old phaser.

Ironic and cool! Your thought just brought a big smile to my face.

I guess before I put the cart before the horse, I should back track a tad and start with some pics (just a few) of my CAD model. One note.... this is my work, I would ask that you guys respect that and please don't start doing runs of this. If there is enough requests, I will do a run of kits for you all. If you want to tackle this and build 1 prop for "yourself", then I don't have any issues with that. I just don't want to see runs of my work going on. Please be cool! :)

Sit back and enjoy!

No disrespect to the people here....Im just not a replica guy. I do enjoy seeing the work but I love the screenused stuff.

I absolutely hated the silver flashy model they came up with. Hated it.

BUT.....Kenny Sir....this is just about the nicest prop I've ever seen. As Jean Luc once said, "Make it so"......lets get the run list made at least.

Id be proud to have this on my desk. Its unbelievably cool.

(when that barrel moved in and out......floored)

Agreed with everyone else -- the video was mind-blowing levels of awesome. The detachable phaser I part, all the swiveling bits and lights, and just the GRIP... I'm floored. This is serious work, Kenney. Well done!!!

(how much should I start saving under the couch cushions for a kit? lol)

The Prop Stop

No disrespect taken.... but just so you know.... I wouldn't consider this a replica. This is the actual concept phaser I made to try and get the studio to go with this for the new Federation phaser. So, coming directly from me, you guys are getting something a little more than something like a replica. So I hope you can see it that way as well. :)

And thank you for the kind words.... as I said before... it means a lot to me.

It's a production-made appetizer prop.
By the way, I much prefer the muted blue in the CAD drawings. It almost makes me want to buy one.

Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness "Concept" Phaser by Kenney's Custom Props, LLC

Is it possible to be sexually attracted to a phaser?!?!

Seriously, thank you for posting these, this piece is fantastic, if you do end up doing a run count me as number one on the list!

Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness "Concept" Phaser by Kenney's Custom Props, LLC

I am SO impressed with the thought and execution of this work.

The assembly is very much like an actual weapon as if it could be broken down and reassembled, though I don't think anyone is going to be able to do so in 10 seconds. :D

Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness "Concept" Phaser by Kenney's Custom Props, LLC

Kenney, what a generous sharing of the process and design! That is way more work than most of us expect would be seen inside a movie prop. You do honor to the original, which too had gone many years until the work and details were revealed. Please let us know what other work of yours to watch for in the movies, tv, etc. both present and past.

Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness "Concept" Phaser by Kenney's Custom Props, LLC

I would cherish one of these in my collection.

Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness "Concept" Phaser by Kenney's Custom Props, LLC

I'm very interested. but we have to take this to the junk yard. start an interest thread there...

Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness "Concept" Phaser by Kenney's Custom Props, LLC

Thanks sean..... I'll start one tomorrow. I can have a direct link between the two threads though.... correct.
