Going Gungi

Hey All!

Been working on Gungi (the Wookiee Jedi youngling from Clone Wars) for a couple months now and since I'm about done I thought I'd share some process photos:

This is Gungi

Ventilating some fur. The colour is a mix of blonde and strawberry blonde (it's much blonder in person)

Dem Wookiee feet! (Ok, so I cheated a little, but I think they'll look great with hair)

Some leather and metal work for the band and belt:

Aaaaaaaaaand DONE (with the body suit at least) Please excuse the bad photos. My legs aren't really that short (damn perspective)

On to the mask:
I'm using an old negative mould from a full head cast I subjected myself to last year:
IMG_2061.jpgIMG_2062.jpgIMG_2066.jpgIMG_2069.jpg

The material is a smooth-on product called body double. It's better than alginate because the negative mould lasts longer than one shot. WARNING: Whatever you do, DO NOT let this product get too cold! We had some delivered during the snow-pocalypse in Ohio last year and the cold did something to the chemical makeup of the product causing it to stick to the subject's skin. We had to take him to the hospital to get it removed (we were doing a full body cast from the neck down). That said, this cast was taken after that incident and I would recommend this product 100% The lesson learned is to be aware of the limitations of the product you're using (the label says it shouldn't be kept anywhere below a certain temp, lesson learned).

In other news, force relics is making my sabre for this costume because my 3D printer broke after I'd gone through the trouble of drafting the hilt of the sabre. Totally worth it! The FR sabre is more beautiful than anything I could have made myself. See:

Stay Tuned because more mask fun is about to begin!

That Force Relics saber is a real beauty. Good luck with the rest of the built. It looks great so far!!!

Thanks again, Jevaho.
Here's the quick initial under skull sculpt. Lots of polishing to do, but I think it'll turn out just fine, after all, the under skull doesn't have to be pretty, haha.

And the teeth will be cast tomorrow (then I'll adjust the sculpt to fit them so I don't have to do tons of trimming)

More to come!

Teeth are cast! They turned out well and will get painted soon. Did a test fit in the sculpt and I think with the skin they'll look pretty good.

And the Bandolier is done. #3D drafted and printed the detail. Can't wait to put it all together!

Couple hours more of hair application, and Gungi will be done.

That's it for now. Next post, Gungi really will be done :)

OMG I can't wait to see this completed! This is like Lucas films on set costuming level detail here. I am utterly speechless.

Some updates before I post the full suit later this evening:

He will of course be needing trimming and thinning, (and I'm waiting on his sabre) but it's nice to be almost there!
