GOTG Star Lord Nerf Blaster Repaint

So I decided to repaint the Guardians of the Galaxy Star Lord Nerf Blaster. Most other options for getting a replica of one of these are out of my budget, but this was a cheap, fun, and easy project.

Here's what I started with:

Here's the reference I was using of the actual prop:

First I started taking everything apart, sanding it down a bit, and taping things up for paint.

Then I spent a lot of time touching up the paint, trying to get that "brushed metal" look.

Finally, I gave everything a clear coat to protect the paint, and put it all back together.

I know it's not 100% screen accurate by any means, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out. Who knows, maybe I'll eventually get some carbon fiber wrap for the handles and add them later on. Anyways, thanks for checking out my build/mod/repaint. If you have any questions, feel free to post them below.

Screen accurate or not, that repaint is awesome!

Thanks a bunch! It was a lot of fun, and only took a couple of days. I'm tempted to pick up another since he carries 2 of them. Not sure if that's how I want to spend the next two days though. Lol.

Great work! It turned out really nice!

Ive got a pair disassembled and ready to sand, hoping to do it this weekend.

Nicely done!

Ha! I was planning to do the same exact thing, in fact I went to TRU last Wed or Thurs, but they had none of the GotG items in yet. So I ordered them online, and they'll be here in the next couple of days.

I'd say you did a great job of painting them. My plan is to paint two of them, but I was also going to look into putting something inside of them to give them more weight, maybe some sculpting putty or something like that. I'm guessing since they are plastic and hollow, they're pretty light.

Also, before I ordered mine through the TRU website, I had been watching them on Ebay and from what I have seen they are disappearing pretty quickly. So if you're thinking about grabbing a pair of these, you might want to do it sooner rather than later.

What types of paint and clear coat did you use? Every time I try to paint something like this it looks fake and "painted". Yours looks fantastic!

Nice modification, I ordered a blaster from Amazon.com a couple of days ago, it's going to take a while to cross the Atlantic to me, but with no prospect of seeing any shops in the UK stocking them at the moment I thought I would treat myself.

Thanks for posting the photos.

Here are the paints I used.

I also used silver "rub n buff" and some plain black acrylic paint. I brushed those side to side to get the brushed metal effect.
