Custom red hood

Hello everyone!
I've got some exiting news, around mid september i was invited to a cosplay group with a batman theme, we're supposed to do a massive photoshoot and record a video in con comics guadalajara, in december 12th, with a set and a choreographer and all that good stuff (or at least that's what i was told)
And since i've been meaning to do a red hood build since ... 1 1/2 years ago, I've also been working out since mid July, so i thought this was the best oportunity to finally do it!
I'll start uploading pics in a few hours

This build, or at least part of the build, started a few months before batman arkham origins was released, i was planning to do a deathstroke build, i almost finished it but i got a little bit depressed, since i wasn't thin enough to look the part and also got very distracted with school
I made my own armor templates, based on snakepit stidios' deathstroke (this was from around the time they removed their armor templates from their thread... Good thing i have a great memory)
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414505566.713546.jpg

I traced those on foam
I used some elastic and bucles (recycled from my old arkham city robin build)
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414507155.143184.jpg
I also added some pouches and a holster, all made out of foam to the thighs
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414507163.075834.jpg

A few weeks ago i went to a flea market (to buy foam and materials for cheap, and i came around a place where they sell hunting/army gear, and i bought some gloves (originally for a halo 4 build) but i figured they would look nice with the red hood armor
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414507396.909096.jpg
I can use my iphone without taking them off and they have a great hexagon pattern on them

Hey, those are some sweet looking holsters you got there. Sorry to hear you felt too down to finish the death stroke build but its like everything we build on here, it takes time but it gets there in the end. Looking forward to seeing this done, I think a mix of death stroke parts into a red hood build would really work into a great military style red hood. Subbing to this to see how it turns out. Break a leg as they say.

Allright, time for an update!
As most of you know, there can't be a red hood without a red helmet
This is the piece i've been working on the most, considering the pep files for red hood's helmet are not free
So i thought of visiting "jf custom's foam files" thread, and do a hybrid between iron man, arkhan deathstroke and injustice deathstroke ... Then i noticed the "multi hero/blue beetle cowl"
I modified it a bit, and traced onto cardboard, as a size/shape tester
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414593828.965076.jpg

As you can see, it looks kinda bad-ass
After waitin a few weeks to ho to the flea market to buy some foam for cheap, i finnaly made it out of foam
This is the suit so far

Here's how i made the knife sheath
The knife i'm using is a training knife from cold steel i bought from amazon a few years ago
I searched for a knife sheath on google and found this
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414813575.197520.jpg
So i drew it to scale and started making sliced of the sheath out of plastic
Then i added a piece of foam on the top for detail
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414814081.297963.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414814090.430136.jpg
I then used my heat gun to wrap a foam sheet around it
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414814345.679891.jpg
I then used an elastic to strap them to my shin
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414814561.833989.jpg

I also finished painting the helmet... But it didn't go as expected... I used my dremel to hive the detail lines mire definition
I bought something that i think was plasti dip... But when i pained the helmet i put down some newspaper and the wind made them stick to the helmet... So i ran into my house and grabbed an old toothbrush to scrape some of the impertections to make them look like they were intentional, then i spraypainted it red and brushed the now battle damage again

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414815176.869005.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414815187.802514.jpg

Then i weathered the helmet and added silver to some of the battle damage

Allright, in order to make the eyes i ... Well let's say i "borrowed" one of my mother's sunglases (just kidding, she gave them to me)
I cut out the ear pieces and sanded some of the edges
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414898315.053090.jpg
Then i traced out where i wanted to place them and hot glued them
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414898381.634709.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414898396.784470.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414898408.368594.jpg

I also re-painted the deathstroke shins all black
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414898448.368059.jpg

And here's the armor so far
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414898482.034833.jpg

Alright, that's all for now, i'm still considering on ordering a red hood shirt (from the sane seller who made the current batman shirt) or doing a chest armor or keeping the batman shirt i'm currently using

Please leave comments and/or questions, i really appreciate them
Later!

Hey man I wished I'd stumbled upon this sooner. You are doing a fantastic job. Im also currently working on a red hood costume. The helmet took me a long time to make because it was my first one and i had no clue about pepakura files before so i started with an iron man mask from walmart and went through a ton of trial and error until now i finally have it how i like it and I kinda combined the helmet shape from the "Under The Red Hood" movie with one of the comic book helmet paints. If youre interested check out my thread for my Red Hood and Damian Wayne Robin costumes and lemme know what you think

Thank you, i went trough the same thing on deciding how to make the helmet, i've seen a few of people using the walmart iron man mask for red hood and deathstroke, so i thought i'd give it a shot, then i found the blue beetle/multi hero cowl pep file wich ended up being perfect for the helmet
I just saw your red hood and robin build, looks real nice, keep it up

Now for an update
Since my deadline is approaching i decided to do a test run (literally, i runned around my apartment complex) to see what pieces needed to be reingorced or fixed
the leg pieces starting to fall apart, since the foam i used was "foam" on one side and rubber in the other, hot glue didn't seem to work well in regular amounts
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416850405.427777.jpg
The holster was also reinforced
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416850480.909640.jpg
And the shins were re-glued in place and reinforced
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416850584.359349.jpg

I went to a local hobby store that a friend recomended and i bought some 6mm foam sheets and the holy grail of hot glue (10 kilos worth of hot glue to be specific)
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416850835.842432.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416850844.526280.jpg

I also went to costco and found a lightweight pullover that could work as the shirt
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416850657.843047.jpg
I cut out the bat emblem out of red 6mm foam
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416850885.027224.jpg
The way i'll attach the emblem will be trough magnets, so that way i can use the pullover for another costume... Or wear it as regular clothes
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416850949.792671.jpg

Now i need to spraypaint the logo to match the helmet's color, but other than that, i'm almost finished with the costume
I'll post a pic later today with the painted emblem
if anyone has suggestions, questions or comments, feel free to post them
Later!

For my Emblem I just cut the design out of foam, spraited it with white plasti-dip and then cherry red spray paint and im using velcro to attach it to my armor. I had to be careful though because the foam i used was thin so the plasti-dip caused it to bend but the effect i got was awesome. Cant wait to see it all put together dude, as mine soon shall be!

Alright, i'm nearly done
I finished painting the emblem with red spraypaint
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416889193.361792.jpg
Here's the upper half of the costume
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416889226.409931.jpg

I've got a question for anyone reading this
Should i weather the chest emblem or leave it as it is right now?

Looking good, Daniel! If I were you, I would weather the chest emblem since you weathered the helmet. It looks sort of strange to have one look worn and the other look brand new.

Hello everyone!
I went to the convomics yesterday and took some pics of me as red hood, these are the first few pics, more will hopefully show up in a few weeks
