MrPINSKI’s JUDGE DREDD HELMET CONTEST ENTRY

Now that WonderCon is over... I can get to a different kind of fun!

My helmet design will be something I can relate to... Sorta.

I was born in Russia during the cold war, this helmet will be for a Russian Judge/ Soviet Judge that's been through it... I would like this helmet to carry a feel as if this were real, this would be the helmet a Soviet Judge would wear.

My helmet will be based off of my Dredd 3D V2 helmet sculpt.

My main colors will be a crimson red, gold, black and a bunch of dirt!

I have already asked ArtAndrews if it was alright I do this and was cleared to do so as it was my sculpt to begin with.

11 days to get this done... I'll give it a go!

Day 1 was spent casting... I cast it in basic white resin as I will be painting in all of the weathering later on.

Now, I will not need the cheek paddles that my sculpt has so, I cut out some foamies in the correct shapes and stuck them into the mold and cast over them in hopes of saving me sanding and filling time....

It all went to plan. :) More tomorrow.

So, it looks like I'll be going with an eagle concept here... Still a few kind to work out but I think I'm onto something.

The eagles head is a part of my dredd badge that I cast alone. More soon :)

I'd suggest doing something with the shape of the visor and eyes at least, or else it will end up looking like a Mega-City One helmet with extra bits on it.

One of the most visually distinct differences between different sets of Judges are the headgear, specifically the shape of the visor portion of the helmet, and the Sov-Judges have their own style in the comics.

You might draw some inspiration from them?

Liking your take on a Sov Judge.

Just wanted to offer this, if its not too late. The Russian eagle crest has two heads, each looking in the opposite direction.

May be interesting to incorporate into your helmet badge design.

Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to seeing the final result.

That though had crossed my mind, but that eagle wasn't around during the Cold War and this is really a helmet themed for the early 80's.

I hope that's correct as I haven't found proof otherwise...

Thank you for the input though! :)

And I am using a bit of inspiration from Kelpy's picture of the soviet Judge. That cross will go!

Thanks guys!

The double headed eagle, while awesome, I agree with Pinski is wasn't really a cold war thing so much as a symbol chosen by some particularly dynastic families in the early 20th century. It was a symbol held over from the Byzantine Empire and Holy Roman Empire, who in turn took it from the first Roman Empire. Nowadays you can find it all over old family crests from northern europe and russia.

I'm liking the changes! This helmet is going to look cool!
