Harry Potter free paper props - all movies and more!

@KellieMarie, I use a regular laminating machine that has a foil setting. I think it cost me around $100-$150. It has its problems; the heat is not consistent across the entire page, so the foil adheres better along the edges. I've taken to running things through twice before peeling off the film. Sometimes I even have to replace the film and run it a third time. This results in extra gilding powdered across the image, but it's easy to buff off with a paper towel. I imagine a $500+ machine would work much better, but that wasn't in the budget, so I hobble along.

@bfd, speaking of foiling, was it you who posted the separations for the Hogwarts Express ticket? I made some for a friend's son's party this weekend, and they were wildly popular. I'm really grateful for the art, since the tickets were something I always wanted but just never had the time to do. That's why I love this thread! The more things we share, the more time we have to create and share other props.

@mewmar & KellieMarie, here are the files you requested. For the polish, I used a chocolate covered espresso bean tin from Trader Joe's. I imagine that doesn't help much in Malta, but do they have Trader Joe's in the midwest?

Sweet collection! What's that thing that looks like a spine? And the shell with the crystals, is that what Dumbledore uses to drink the water off the locket? I feel like an HP failure for not knowing.

the spine thing is one of the spine candles you can see in PoA. In the scene where Lupin teaches Harry how to do a Patronus.. and yep, the shell is what Dumbledore uses to drink the potion. In the book, he just conjures a goblet. :)

@Luke, you're right, it's stars. I think Mewmar was pointing out that the foil on the Nutella jar, though imprinted with circles, is a handy substitute for someone who doesn't need it to be screen accurate. The link I posted is to the real star foil; although it's relatively inexpensive, the shipping costs to the US would be a dealbreaker for most budgets. I seem to recall something like $60 US to ship a $2 roll of foil.

Hi I just wanted to thank everyone who has been posting props recently, barney and goldensnidget specially. @goldensnidget I had seen elkinspotter.com before and always loved it. I wish I could do something like that at my house, though I thought it was some sort of charity event, maybe I understood wrong. Anyway I think you're really talented. I was wondering how you made the Quidditch World Cup ticket, the Spindle's Lick o'Rish Spiders and the Exploding Bon-Bons, and if you actually designed the complete works of Gilderoy Lockhart. If you did all that I must say you're a genius!

MINISTRY MUNCHIES COFFEE CUP SLEEVE

Awhile back someone said they'd like to see the coffee sleeve with Ministry Munchies logo on it, so here it is.

I made 2 versions. One that has no background so it can be printed on purple paper and one with a purple background that can be printed on white paper.

I did both and posted a couple of pics of the results. The one printed on purple paper loses a little of the yellow around the Ministry logo but saves you some ink. The one with the pruple background printed on white paper looks better IMHO.

The templates print out on letter size paper. There are little marks (you have to look closely) to show you where to fold. Glue the end and voila, a coffee sleeve.

Edit: Gonna remove the images and revise them. Might post them later.

Thanks for the kudos, though it definitely was not just me. I did a lot of it, but I had friends who made things too, and/or loaned me props that they had bought or traded from artists I don't know. (I'll probably meet some of them here.) It was a real collaborative effort, and yes, for charity! We took donations for our local women's center, which provides empowerment training and domestic violence resources. I would really have liked to use commercial space, but it just wasn't feasible -- I needed too much time to set it up, and we were basically asking landlords to take on liability without compensation. In the end, it was easier to do it in my house (for me, anyway; my family assures me that I'll never talk them into anything on that scale again).

I did not make the Quidditch World Cup tickets. I bought them on Ebay; I believe, though I am not sure, that the seller was in England.

I recreated the Spindle's Spiders based on images I found online. It was hard to see what was on the top of each section, so I made up my own graphic based on the 1960s children's book "Mr. Spindles and the Spiders." (The poor man tries everything to get the spiders out of his house, eventually burning it down in the process. Canaries are among his attempted weapons, so I put them on the box.) I got lucky and guessed correctly that there's a spider on the top. I printed my drawings out on clear gloss film and overlaid them on matte silver paper.

I made the Exploding Bonbons by drawing over the best image I could find online (which wasn't very good). The bonbons themselves are styrofoam balls covered with truffle foils. Not having magic to help me, I hot glued them together in that triangular shape.

I made the covers for Magical Me, The Guide to Household Pests, Year With the Yeti, and the boxed sets (there are no actual books in there, just spines). I bought the Travels With Trolls cover on Ebay; my impression was that the seller owned an original and did a limited run of copies.

I'm happy to post my files for anything I made myself. I wouldn't feel right about posting images of anything I bought, unless I have that artist's permission (and as I said, in some cases, I don't know who the artist is).

so earlier this month i posted about this box that i found
316119_241609782548266_226975130678398_672852_7876966_n.jpg

finally did some work to it..

took off the plastic
took off the letters
stained it a cherry color
added rusted looking handles

what do you guys think?? pictures is kinda crappy cause i used an iphone for it .. probably post a better one with my real camera tomorrow

here is better picture of the box.. still not sure what to do to the inside or even what to use for it..

i know it is star foil but it was a solution for those that don't want to spend a lot for now. I probably confused some people though, sorry.

@goldensnidget, I could probably find something like that at a charity shop or maybe at the ironmonger perhaps. I could also find it at home, I'm a hoarder!

Oh, I see, I just wanted to make sure everyone knew. But thanks for trying to dave us money, that's a lot of what we're about on the FREE Paper Props forum lol :D

goldensnidget: can you show off the Spindle's Spiders with all of us?

Sure. Like I said, the top of the image is inaccurate; when I saw the real props at the Exhibition, what I had interpreted as a leaf was actually the curved arms of an upside-down, screaming cartoon man. (Presumably Mr Spindles. He looked a lot like Gru from Despicable Me.) I just never had the time to update the image. Maybe someday....

In addition to the pattern, you need a circle of paper (3.75" diameter) for the bottom and some green cellophane for the stuffing.
