Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I thought a good plot point would have been to have the good guys track down a lost base/temple containing a backup of the arvhices and that withoutt they can't defeat the enemy. Or a wharehouse of holocrons or something. You must understand the past to fix the future type thing. I'd have to imagine the jedi were smart enough to have an off-site back up - just in case ;)

That's one place I always thought the EU failed. There were a few books that briefly had a scene where Luke went somewhere to look for Jedi artifacts. I thought it would make a cool book to have the entire story be Luke or other Jedi going to find a lost temple (since there were supposedly others off Coruscant). Sort of a cross between SW and Indy. No one ever did it though.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

All of this is speculation of course but let's be honest the Jedi at the end were not that bright. They didn't sense Palpatine was a Sith. They didn't notice Anakin being turned. I think one of the underlying themes in the PT is that pride comes before a fall. Yoda and Mace and even Obi all thought they had it figured out and that they were beyond reproach because they were the good guys.
True, but if the Jedi had been on their game, figured out Palpatine was Sidious, and kept Anakin from turning to the Dark Side, there wouldn't have been any Star Wars movies. :D

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Right, but that also doesn't state that the canon is ONLY the six films. If literally nothing else is canon, what's that mean for Clone Wars, Rebels, The Force Unleashed, and whatever other merchandising they want to do? I mean, while I doubt 9 year olds are worried about what is and isn't canon, if you're doing that much of a marketing push, it would seem counterproductive to just cavalierly overrule whatever you please that you've already done.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Clone Wars has been included, he just failed to mention it in that one comment. Pablo Hidalgo has already confirmed that.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

As for ben or whatever ghost telling him, who says the ghosts can go on forever? Qui-Gon never talked to luke in the OT, so why start now? I like the idea of no force ghosts because it kinda needs to be alec an that can't happen. Best to have had it end well in the past, just like Zahn did it. Not to mention, maybe they think it's best if he starts from scratch seeing how it all ended last time.

One, because Qui-Gon had no direct ties to Luke, he died before he was even born so why would he talk to him, "Hi, you may not know me but I'm Qui-Gon Jin, Obi-Wan's old master, let's talk.". Second, Lucas hadn't created the character of Qui-Gon yet and hasn't gotten around to adding a Force Ghost of him in the OT yet.

Yeah, that'll show the next Star Wars movie who's boss. Suck it JJ!

I know he's being a bit too literal, but come on man. Show some support for the people who are working on broadening the franchise to newer viewers! You don't have to say every little thing is canon, but it would help out if you said the material you work on actually matters. Otherwise, what's the point?

Hi, I'm Qui-Gon Jin. You might know me from missions like "Investigating the Naboo blockade" or "Escape from Mos Espa"

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Last I heard, they were just starting to sit down to figure out what will and wont be canon. That statement from Kinberg reads to me as a blanket statement that contains no real information. He said the films were canon (duh), not that everything else is being thrown away.

But just so we're clear, I'm not saying that I think it will or want it all to be canon. I'm simply saying we can't be sure either way until it is announced definitively, which this is not.

Star Wars Episode VII

Well, how hard would it be for Luke to have discovered a bunch of old holocrons? Jedi or sith? Certainly he could be searching around for Palpy's hidden stashed goodies around the galaxy? Maybe he inadvertently awakens some sith nastiness?
Why not return to the universe mid war and piece it together as we go?
I mean we enter seeing armies and obvious Sith & Jedi battling within them? That would be cool.

I'd like to see a luke with skills and powers above or at least up to clone wars Annakin. He deserves to be an acrobatic Jedi too! Lol

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

They were in the prequel visual dictionaries, not the movies. Not sure if that means anything though.

In E2, Obi had an object like a marble that contained the whole chart of the known galaxy - don't know if that counts.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

There's nothing really remarkable about a holographic book system. It could apply to any kind of information, really. The real question is whether Jedi knowledge was preserved anywhere, and if so, whether Luke would follow it, emulate it, or simply study it to learn more. Or whether you'd have some kind of situation where a student finds an old holocron and goes bad because he "delves too deeply" into knowledge for which he's unprepared.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I think it's very likely holocrons will be considered a canonical part of SW and would make for a good McGuffin.
