new syfy show Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge

I think most of these challenges are not a typical turnaround time for production-ready creatures. Many really great artists need more time to truly show what they can do to make a quality product, but I know that's part of the game and test into getting into the company is seeing what you can do in such a finite amount of time.

So disappointed in Lex's stuff this episode, the movement of the legs was so laughable, but I think she got shafted by the ******* she was working with. He must have spent HOURS sculpting that head, an hour casting it and more time running a head. HE didn't really do anything for the build that had anything to do with movement other than shake his ass. He should have been the one to go home on sheer principal he didn't do anything for the challenge. I suspect he did that on purpose so there was nothing of his to criticize related to the the actual challenge.

I agree, I though this work was not very productive this week. He could have gotten the same effect with a good paint job. Lex had to everything else it seemed like. Yes, the judges liked the tail shake, but it was her design not cause of his booty bounce that made it look good. I think the judges need to be advised by the specialist that overlook the project. I think they could get a better idea of who and what things had to be done in the groups. The gentleman kinda questioned the sculpted head as being in his comfort zone and not really being part of the movement challenge. I feel that his/her input could weigh in a better idea of who's a better artist of why the project had so many issues.

I think Russ stepped up his game lately. He Does not seem to be that big of problem as he once seemed to be. His skills are showing more now and has been very helpful to those around him. Maybe he just needed to get away from Tina or just speak up more and feel more relaxed in his environment.

The main 2 guys are gonna be hard to beat in the end. Sorry can't recall their names at the moment. I'm pulling for Melissa right now to keep the heat on those 2.

Lex is so skilled and so likeable, I hated to see her go, especially when she had so little help. For a moment, it seemed like the judges had figured it out, but then no, alas.

I missed the last episode and syfy wont let me watch it on their site. Its te only episode that is locked.

Since I can't watch it, Who won this season?

Robert. It was really close and they all created creatures with a variety of winning aspects to them, but his, they said, was most camera ready.

I think Melissa should have won. Roberts was camera ready in the last episode yes. But I feel that with Melissa winning more of the best builder nods during the season. Was a better all around creature builder. Plus the fact I didn't like how the final and winning build was a group project. It was nice to see everyone help out but it should be your skills only that decide your fate. If not Melissa, then the other guy. He had some mad skills and was always one of the top each week too.

i'll give the shows credit tho for at least doing it off that build and not the whole seasons work. I always hated how some shows let others slide when they screwed up only cause they always great before. Thus someone who wasn't the worst that week got the boot. Prime example of this is always on ink masters. The DB who won last season ( one that just ended a few weeks back) wasnt the best in the final. But 2 weeks before that he had a poop stain of a tattoo. Judges kicked off another lady cause they wanted to keep him. Why cause is other works were solid to best at times and his was the season villain. . Personally I would have blown up on the judges if they pulled that crap with me, it's elimation tattoo not elimation of all your weeks work. You get better as you go, trip and your out..it's that simple. But I guess it's what ever the producers wants. Halo should have been in top 3 also not Matty, but they get that villain + drama view bonus.

I don't know, I think if the show is basically a job interview, one of the most important skills of a project leader is knowing how to delegate according to skills, get the most out of the people you work with and work well as a team. Some artists are amazing on their own, but put them with others and everyone in the group does worse than they normally would. You don't want that in your shop so this sort of challenge gives them a chance to see that.

I really loved Melissa. Her enthusiasm and positive attitude would have been a joy to work around. Her creativity was top notch too, and I'm sorry they couldn't have hired both of them.

One thing I noticed was that it must be super, super hard to get the structure in your creature right when you only have a short time. Many of the projects had great 'skin' but they looked wonky walking around. That has got to be the hardest part of these builds and you don't know it until after it's assembled and too late...

Oh, absolutely. Ink Masters seems at times very unprofessional. Purposefully singling out Kyle over and over again, and admitting that they were doing it on purpose because they think he performs better under pressure - when they were really pushing too hard and caused him to break. He was paranoid to begin with, but they made it worse. Was it just bad judgement on part of the judges, or was it intentional to get ratings drama? I don't know, but it wasn't cool.

And yeah, I agree, cutting Melissa when her tattoo was so much better than Scott's that challenge ONLY because of his past, was very disheartening for her. She took it very maturely. Overall, I do think he is better than she is, but that challenge she beat him, it was clear. If anything, they should have thrown in another challenge or saved her just to keep it from looking like after a certain time on the show they have preselected the winners.

To me these 2 statements contradict each other. On one hand you are saying Melissa should have won because she won more challenges throughout the season, but on the other hand you are commending the show for not choosing the winner based on past performance.

Either way, I really enjoyed it the show and hope we get to see more like it. The animatronics in puppetry have always fascinated me and I only wish they had more time to showcase the builds. Maybe perhaps SyFy could post some behind the scenes build videos of the extra footage on thier website.

I enjoyed the show, but really wished the content expert mentors were featured more. I'm hoping they actually did more for the contestants then what was shown, which, at least to me seemed to be no more than a quick "hey whatcha doin? Cool..good luck." I'm imagining this was editing. For example when there was trouble with the eye mechs, why wouldn't they ask their mechanical shop mentor how to fix them? Seems reasonable, no?

On another note, those eye mechs are really neat. I tried (read googled and read some forum posts) to locate them but didn't find anything. Does anyone know if those are proprietary or how they work (or if you can get a kit to play with?)

I believe if you search for "Servo eye kit" on eBay, you will find different level kits and prices.
Search that on the web as well and tons pop up to buy.

I know I did and its kinda silly. But they had ran with it being a total package of works vs. that's week project a few times. I recall the hipster kid was spared one week just cause he always has a great sculptor. His work was junk other than the head that week. So I think they sent lex packing that week instead. Don't quote me on it, but it was BS to me and a few others. Yes, I prefer it done as a week to week battle to be judge on. Just wished they went all projects vs week for the final. I feel that they lost out on Melissa by not picking her. they might have asked her to stay on after the show. To be totally fair I would love to see a show where the judges only saw the finish work. They would never know who's work it belong to. When asked a question by a judge the artists voice would be Changed while answering the question. Why do the judges need to know who did it? Random shuffle and no visual would make it a fair week to week battle. Just an idea for maybe a different show or one.
