new syfy show Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge

I agree. I'm so tried of the lame story lines, false jeopardy and staged angst in all the "reality" shows. I want to see process! I want to see someone doing something other than crying, throwing a tantrum or bullying someone. I would also like to see actual experts, if it's a judging situation; not some pseudo-celebrity who was on a sci-fi show once or worked SFX crew on some obscure genre film. Is that too much to ask?

I've long since given up that any of these 'reality' shows revolving around a topic I'm interested in will actually show much of the actual process. I'm afraid that there is a much higher percentage of TV viewers who like "lame story lines, false jeopardy and staged angst"-Sourdoh, than really want to know what is involved in creating and producing a makeup or special effect. I still watch FaceOff but often do so with the volume off and music playing. And the Body Painting and Monster Man shows were un-watchable. Maybe this one will somehow break the mold. But I'm not holding my breath.

Hi all! Long time no post but ah! I'm a contestant this season. They said they want to keep it classy, so I'm praying they do! It certainly feels like it will be a lot more fun to watch than it was to experience, I'll say that much! That's probably true of any reality TV show.

Since the contestants were publicly announced now I'm allowed to say! If you check out the syfy page for the show, I'm "Tina".

All of the contestants this season are amazingly talented! You guys are really in for a fun time, I think. :D Gigi and the whole Henson gang are huge sweethearts. It was easy to tell the aspects of production that are staples for reality shows made them anxious or upset and every time someone was eliminated they were sad about it. They went out of their way to talk to each of us about how wonderful it was that we lent our talents to the show. I look forward to March with excitement and anxiety ahahaha.

P.S. new press photo out! I'm the dork chick with the tentacle on the table behind Gigi.

Hi Tina - I DVRed it but haven't watched it yet. All the best to you this season! I also saw your profile on SyFy and it looks like you grew up right up the street from me. Im in Jamison :)

Being a puppet maker and a HUGE Jim Henson creature fan, this is right up my alley. I enjoyed the first episode and can't wait to see more. Good luck Tina. :)

I watched it. And it looks pretty interesting.

As for the first elimination: to be fair, they didn't specify if the scene was meant to be realistic or a "Muppets Under the Sea" type of style, so naturally the face of the one was within the old-school Jim Henson style in my opinion.

I thought it was one of the best. It made me laugh as it moved around! The purple man fish thing was cool too. I didn't think much of the big blue fish, I'm suprised they weren't both sent home for that one.

Sometimes I wish they wouldn't eliminate in the first week, I wanted to see what they guy who went out could do.

I watched this last night and I thought it was really good. I like Face-Off but I am more into building than make up, so I am really looking forward to watching this season.

I just wish they could be given more than TWO DAYS to build this stuff!! I understand that being under the gun is a drama point of these shows but dang, imagine what we could see if they were given a few more days. Two days might pass for a craft bizarre or vacation Bible school, but for a screen test? C'mon guys, give these artists a little more time to work!! I would rather have fewer episodes if the finished product had more time to be developed. At least a week. These are all talented people, give them a little more time to shine.

I saw the first episode. Its pretty much that same thing as Face-off, with a different and judges. One thing I did like better was that the judging was done in a mock environment/filming text situation.

I thought the guy they sent home the first night should have been given a second chance. They should have sent home one of those two people that were bickering and couldn't work together. If anything, I'd think when looking for future employees you'd want someone who was a team player. Anyone making it difficult to work with others has to be a liability regardless of how talented they might be.

Off topic, was I seeing things, or did they have a little teaser for Sharknado 2 ?????

I loved the show and really agree that they should be given a little more time. Not enough to eliminate the pressure of time (is that even possible?), but enough that we can see the contestants at their best. Good luck, Tina, and thanks for sharing here.

I agree with that.
I finally caught it last night as it re-aired at 11pm Friday night (which is a much better time for me!) and I like it better than Face-Off. Although a carbon copy of how these elimination games work I found the show much more interesting. Face-Off has gotten to be too redundant and all you ever really see of the process anymore is someone trying to get their molds out after locking up and never much in the actual build... just a little bit about sculpting, a touch on painting and not much else.... Maybe because I am seeing a different application in this new show that it seems like I am witnessing more of the build process but this show will probably gloss over the actual process of making a creature as well... as usual, the drama plays out more as entertainment than the actual making of the creature but I do currently find this show to be more interesting than Face-Off.

Just caught the first episode, not bad.

Man Brian is looking old, but that's because I always picture him as he was when his father died.

One nitpick I have is when someone said oh this is where all the magic happened.

No most of the magic happened in London back in the day! :lol

I caught the first show and loved it as much as I thought from the previews! I love Project Runway and Face Off and this is another now I'm going to be 'stuck' watching with awe and fascination -wishing there was more teaching us HOW to do these things than interviewing some guy complaining about their partner. :p Typical reality show stuff...

Totally agree about wishing contestants had more than a day or two to create. You see what they do in the time crunch and I just get so frustrated when we don't get to see their full vision because of time!

Maybe eventually we'll get a show about techniques and creative inspiration, but for now we'll make due with the drama.

Oh my, Tina! Just checked out your bio - we're practically neighbors! I'm in KoP. :D Officially cheering for you now. haha!
