An innocent era for TV, perpetually on as a kid. I still leave it on for comfort TV.

I'm 36 but I grew up on reruns of this and other shows of the era and i'd gladly give up the new crap on tv for episodes of this era and variety shows. You can't even catch them on TV land anymore as now they just want to show the 90s stuff (which i'm okay with as now that i'm older i can appreciate Rosanne more than then) instead of embracing all old shows.

Kinda makes you wish the world of the Fallout videogames, minus the nuke war, was real where the 40s/50s never ended but just kept on going. Heck i'd settle for the 80s to have kept going since these shows where still on then in reruns.

Sagan even praised the Professor as a good character because of the dominance of the "mad scientist" in most entertainment.
A rare example of a man of science helping and solving problems rather than creating them and even creating monsters.
Though there were a few episodes were supernatural forces seemed to actually be in play, but usually the Professor was right and debunked
a lot of superstition on the show.

As a kid, I never put too much thought in to why everyone except the Skipper and Gilligan had multiple changes of clothes for a 3 hour tour, A 3.... hour tour.

Yeah, this show is a guilty pleasure of mine. I have them all on disc and during times of stress I can always put them on and be trasported there. As such an impossible style of life as it seemed, it sure made you want to be there.

The original, one of them anyways, SS Minnow still sails........

S.S.Minnow looking like new thanks to Quality FoodsNext I moved past the old S.S. Minnow that had been completely restored by the new owners ‘Quality Foods’ and she looked gorgeous. Ex castaway Mary Ann Summers (actress Dawn Wells) was on hand to meet and greet and to have pictures taken with her fans

Diana said that Quality Foods is using the boat to do a lot of good on the island. About 10 or 12 times a year, the Minnow is offered as an auction prize for various charity events around the island — hospitals, libraries and the like.
“We give away ‘three-hour tours’ around the harbor for six people,” Diana said. “We feed them; it’s really a nice time.”
Just one of these cruises down memory lane will usually net between $2,500 and $5,000 for the charity. And although the TV show last aired nearly 50 years ago, there are still plenty of takers — the interest in all things “Gilligan’s Island” continues to this day.
“This year, we’re swamped” with requests, Diana said

Many years ago, the late Bob Denver was at the Vancouver boat show signing autographs. My dad got me an autographed 8x10. Dad got photos with him at the signing table as well. Bob was wearing his Gilligan costume, red shirt and white hat. I still have the photo in my old desk at my parents house. I'm going to have to get him to bring it out for me when my parents come out for a visit in mid-October, and add it to my autograph binder.

The SS Minnow is in Nanaimo. My parents live over on the island. Gonna have to send my dad there and take some photos.
