That's what we use. I sprayed mine gold though after taking some pliers to the points and bending it into more of a claw shape. You can see here they turned out well.

Finally got my badges in and customized them a bit... I love them. Obviously not 100% screen accurate, but they really get the job done

I love the walking dead. Nice job it looks great! You must have done a good job in talking the owner into selling to you. I'm really surprised they did sell it to you. Post 9/11 the uniform company's have really cracked down due to the possibility of their being used for terrorism by mandate of Homeland Security. I know I have to show ID when ever I buy mine and they cross check my name to a list of department members. One word of advice, be very careful wearing it in public. You wouldn't want to have to talk your self out of a felony. All that aside. It REALLY looks like the one worn on the show.
EDIT: Seeing all the uniforms out there, I guess things aren't as strict as they used to be. All those costumes look great.

I have ordered a set of those badges myself, seeing as my budget constrained me from going for Skruffy's beautiful ones. I really love the way you made them all gold except the center and I am very curious as to how exactly you did that. I almost have my costume completed and will be posting pictures very soon! Hope to see you all at D*con, parade and all!

As for painting the badges. Honestly I just cut a circle into painter's tape and masked off the center circle. I then primed the badges, then painted them the gold color. I took a black paint pen and drew the lettering back in, wiping away the paint after each line. The black will stay in the letters.
Then I hit the badges with a stain clear coat. I didnt want glossy... personal preference
