Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

Hey everyone... my first actual post here, but I've been silently following along while going to town with Robo's files.

At first I was going to fibreglass each part after constructing them, but changed my mind. I find its more motivating for me to get on to the next peice right after finishing constructing one.

Here's a pic of my work in progress so far. (Not being worn is the brace/collar, neck seal, left hand, left handplate, left fingers, and foot flaps, but I've got those pepped already.)

Just the left arm, right leg, hip pods, feet and spine to go!

nice work dude (y)love:thumbsup

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

@supermangt94

lets not forget the Marvel/Dreamwave collaboration - The New Avengers vs. The Transformers wherein tony stark creates a gigantic armor based on Cybertronian tech given to him by the Autobots, or the brief Spawn vs Batman collaberation Image and DC did. just to name a couple more comic book crossovers to support (y)our case.

man i love precedents lol

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

hey has anyone seen this vid? I've been researching about proportionality of the suit and found this video.

I think this is a good base model for proportionality.

btw the chest piece shown here is way smaller than what i have built with the chest.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

that is a great vid - nice to know that the helm is supposed to go right up against some one's ears - might have to make few more helms to replicate that lol

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - 27/6 first post rewritten, RIGHT LEG in first p

I am thinking of using ribbed drainage pipe, for the knees and elbows. It may be too ridged, but we'll see. Here is what it looks like

BTW, Robo your work is great!!!! Just finished the Mark IV chest pep, now I have to resin. Thanks for all your time to building these for everyone.

hi im new to this site, but looking at some of the photos online, clothes dryer tubing sprayed the same red as the armour should work to conceal the leg area, im still thinking of what to use for the elbow areas...but your idea seems awesome :)

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

i have been trying to find a link, most likely on this site, that had jointed armor people make, where they rivet segments together - I was considering doing something similar to that, either with plastic, or maybe thin metal sheets such as brass or copper, whatever I can get my hands on. depending on the degree of flexibility and ease of making it, I may even add this design to the fingers. however, i cannot find the link, anyone able to scour the thread for it? it would be a big help to us all

EDIT: found it :D this is a link to the post on page 14 i think - http://www.therpf.com/f24/robo3687s...-now-available-88147/index14.html#post1273542

While not entirely accurate to the Iron Man joint articulation, this page Armour Archive -- Pattern Archive: Gauntlet by Thor Z does show a basic articulation of finger joints using the rivet method. I haven't gotten this far yet in my build but the same basic concept should apply.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

the pepped fingers should need no riveting segments. once glassed and finished, just connect them with wire near the bottom of the fingers at the edges and connect those wires to your palm pieces. check my previous post at the top of this page for the underglove for the gauntlet.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

lol @ironmaided. Everyone needs the spine dude... but, like grolsch lager, it needs to be brewed to perfection.

In relation to the hand being discussed: I would advise against using the rivet idea as shown in that particular gauntlet. The reason is because the pieces in that are rounded which would allow them to move freely against eachother, our pices are squared off, if you rivet them together they will lay flat against eachother and be stuck.
Someone has posted this video before but i decided to post again for the people that arent interested in trecking thru 39 pages of posts.
At the very end of the video you see a close up working iron man glove.
I personally think think this is absolutely beautiful, it really does look robotic in its movement.

I have played this video back frame by frame. If u wish to have a movie accurate glove, you must add more parts to the pepped pieces it looks the knuckles are rigid pieces and are connected to the finger parts, these parts are solid, and slide in and out of the piece next to it, as opposed to being made from some kind of spongy material as may be percieved. Also note in my screenshot below, the point at which the thumb tip is attached to the piece next to it, which i have circled and pointed a groovy little arrow towards, this requires a new part added to the pep which i have diagramed (porely) to the left of the screenshot. The white part is what we have, the red at the top is the nuckle part, and red at the bottom is what is required for attachment to the piece next to it. It is essentially a strip that attaches solid to the tip of the thumb and attached by a rivet to the inside of the piece next to it. It is possible to use this method on all the finger joints.

Id like to see if anyone attempts this :), i may do myself. It may seem more effort, but the final piece is almost hypnotic in its perfect mechanical movement. Please note: I DONT think this is the only way of creating this effect to perfection. As mentioned before there is an option of using wire. But ill leave that for someone else to explore the theory of. Either way, I think i could just sit there and stare at it moving all day if i had this, it really is stunning :)
Please also note that the 2 sections on the rear of the hand are held together by wire to allow movement (as seen in the video). Robo has gracefully created the palm of the hand for us, which as you can see, doesnt exist. SO A HUGE THANK YOU DUDE!!! Obviously a red underglove will fill in the parts of the hand that remain exposed.
If anybody cares to expand on any of my ideas it would be nice to see other theories. Diagrams would be appreciated also. A picture tells a thousand words.
I hope this post has inspired some of you.

what i mean about the spine is the spine on the back...the one's missing on robo's pep...^_^ :confused

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

i know you did, everyone is waiting for it, it hasnt been designed yet. Robo did mention that it will be uploaded in due time but he's a busy guy and mentioned multiple projects going on at the same time. The rest of my post is not relevent to your request, it relates to the hand part as discussed by other users above your post.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

and i know when he released it, it will look awesome :love

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

i can tell you right now its not a strip connecting the fingers. its just thick wire. the same wire that connects the back of the hand.

How do you know buddy? I've been through this video for ages and its so difficult to see any point of connection. That frame is pretty much the only time u get a decent look. As today has gone on and ive been thinking it over, i think it may be a case of wire for the fingers, but on that screenshot the thumb looks like its on a strip, assumption led me to believe that all fingers may use the same method.... guess not. All just theories though.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

i may leave some longer tabs hanging off of my fungers to bolt them to each other, then connect them to the hand with some guitar string

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

Your pep files are amazing!! Since I can see this is almost finished, will there be a link to be able to download all the files at once? Maybe a letter version of Frog's posts as well?

Also wanted to ask, do you need to remove masking tape from the inside of the pepped piece before bondo or slushing? Just wanted to know. If I can use masking tape and not have to remove it, that would help greatly!!

Thanks!!

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

hey guys, was hoping to have the spine ready for today.....but sadly it won't be...lol...

should be up tomorrow though....

and yes there'll be an all in one file coming

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

i think you can leave it on so long as you mark off where to cut it after resining the parts

also - thanks alot robo ^_^
