Re: Pepakura ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP

Just one quick question: Do I need any thin layer between silicone and helmet? Some kind of releaser spray? Or is the primer the last layer?

Re: Pepakura ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP

You need something called "trennwachs" don'T know what it's called in the US.
it is rely neccesary to seperate the helmet from the silicone

Re: Pepakura ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP

Thanks SpaceCowboy!

Iam actually working on it. Sanding and sanding and sanding... Maybe a bit filling but mostly iam sanding.
I cut out the "Vocoder" and filled it and the lip with fiberglass. Next step is to model the teeth and the vocoder (any recommended materials that i can use, like drinkingstraws?). Hopefully I can make it nice and clean.
I actually like the pattern on the face :) It looks like some kind of camouflage.
The 4 rectangles in the bucket are not sanded down, i will try to make them as flat as possible.

I won't make it too accurate. After some time, you lose the eye for the important things to work on and only concentrate on this only piece. I will give it my personal touch, like its MY stormtrooper helmet, not any replica. Hope you understand it.

Today I wanna order the silicone and the Rotocasting material. Iam going to use Rebound 25 and SmoothCast 65D. Do you think, 3 kilograms of Rebound 25 will be enough? Its so fckn expensive here in germany.. Only one site in the whole german internet sells these silicones.

So yeah, here are the pictures. Any suggestions and opinions are welcome ;)

After one hour of sanding.. (sorry for the blurry picture, iPhone :rolleyes)

They call it "moldrelease" .... :love

Kann auch mal Vaseline sein....

Re: Pepakura ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP

great work here!

Edit²: Sorry for the german converation D:

Re: Pepakura ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP

Nah, sorry I'm no member of the german garrison although i lurk around at their forums from time to time :p
I would love to join the garrison though but my financial means wouldn't allow it at the moment (just finished my final exams).

Re: Pepakura ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP

join in into this thread because i don't want to start an own thread with the same topic again:

inspired by this work and the famous results of terra1

http://www.therpf.com/f24/stormtrooper-pepakura-terra-returns-pics-122443/index2.html

and also great build of echo5633

http://www.therpf.com/f24/anh-trooper-build-135269/

i decided to try my own experience.

so i've started with the pepacura from the .PDO-files provided by spacecowboy

http://www.therpf.com/f24/symmetrical-anh-stormtrooper-helmet-pepakura-157465/

May run in trouble later by using thick printerpaper (100g/qm) instead of cardbord.

Have somebody done that with that kind of paper?
I hope applying epoxy later will not ruin the paperwork?

Here are some pics from last two days work on it, not yet finished.

Update:

Pepakura is done, now i can go to fiberglas it.

Must talk to my neighbor, a former canoe-world-champ who build his own canoes....

Very good build, Toxx; nice and clean assembly and you kept all the proportions correct. I'm looking forward to seeing it fiberglassed!

Thank you!

My fear is that the "paper" i've used get soaken wet by the epoxy and soften so that it will wrinkle....

it is no cardbard, only thicker printerpaper (100g/qm) and glued togheter with "Ponal", an PVA-Based glue for wood (not waterresistant, nontoxic, but sticks in seconds when used on paper to)

normal paper is at 80g/qm, that paper i've used is 100g/qm

cardboard starts at 120 over 190 to 250 and stronger

How long did your Pep take, Toxx?
I actually wanted to try the fierfek model and wondered if this one is easier...

Just out of curiosity .... is there any particular reason you elected to go with paper rather than cardboard or relatively thin eva foam?

No special reason, got not enough thin cardboard at home to do all the work with :love :rolleyes :$

So i've started over with the thick printerpaper, it was easy doing because it bends itself into the right shape at glueing all together.

....Also what kind of Glue did you use, Toxx?
Which Brand? I tried the strongest glue offered by "UHU" but its kinda.....too strong :p
