Re: Pottymouth Droid
I had to put this on hold for a few weeks due to some important reasons. I left off at the point of filling the master body.
As you can see, I tried filling with resin before realizing that the arm box side-walls were bowing in at a slight angle making it difficult for the parts that go in it to fit properly. I ended up having to tear some of the body apart in order to get the chunk of resin out. ![]() I fixed the arm boxes and decided to use foam instead to fill the master. ![]() Then I shaved off the excess. It's now ready for the top plate that will close off the master. I'm looking at having this rotary cast for a hollow center to allow for electronics. ![]() After the top plate goes on, I'll begin body work and then start adding the details. More to come later.... Re: Pottymouth Droid
Quick update.....
I closed up the top and sealed the seams. I've made more progress since I took this picture so the edges were further cleaned up and squared. ![]() I also installed the side bumpers. ![]() Things have been moving slowly due to some major re-works but things should start to pick up. Re: Pottymouth Droid
I'm currently adding detail to the body.
Initially, I wasn't trying to be 100% accurate and while it won't be 100%, I'm slowly converting parts I'm not happy with to make them as accurate as possible. For example, my first center chest plate was not rounded out like the video game model. BEFORE... ![]() ...AFTER...along with the drawer and whatever that thing is below it. I also added some of the bits. I haven't added what I call the collars since I'm still lining up the decal drawings to make sure everything stays straight. ![]() ...the collar I was talking about... ![]() ...Backshot....what I have so far... ![]() Thanks for looking.... Re: Pottymouth Droid
Here's an update my progress...I've been working on the shoulder flap. It's made up of 15 small bits and pieces so far. It should only need a few more parts and some minor scribing before being complete. I seriously thought it was just a flat piece when I first started this project. Closer looks at my ref proved otherwise!

Re: Pottymouth Droid
Claptrap has just been confirmed to be in Borderlands 2, but so far no art has been released on him yet. I hope they don't change him. He's perfect the way he looks.

Re: Pottymouth Droid
Yeah, I hope they don't change his appearance too much.
As far as those videos, yeah, they are cool. I've actually used them for reference as I've found certain angles that I couldn't see in photos ref. I appreciate you guys checking this out. I should have some more free time starting next week. I'll definitely spend more time on it. Joe |

Re: Pottymouth Droid
Here's the latest and greatest....the top head plate so far. I haven't added the antenna and a few details. The head plate will be a separate piece so that you can add electronics in the body and still access. Also, the seams still need to be filled and smoothed out. I also didn't align the plate very well for the last pic which is why it looks off. Things have been slow.....getting close!

Re: Pottymouth Droid
Thanks guys! The head top should be finished and primered tonight. I'll take pics when done and post them. After that I start the wheel. Almost there!

Re: Pottymouth Droid
Ok, it looks like I'm done with the head top for the most part. Once primered, I'm sure I'll spot some imperfections that I'll need to smooth out. I'm pretty happy, though...

Re: Pottymouth Droid
Ok here is the start of the wheel. It was hard coming to a conclusion on the dimensions for it. The offical art, in-game model and YouTube video model all differ slightly. I did my best. The rib frames were stuck together back-to-back and will now be filled with foam, sanded down, sealed, and then the treads will be individually added last.
FYI, the wheel will be a part of the stand so you will not be able to see what's holding it up so easily or at all. ![]() ![]() Joe Last edited by joewhite; 01-02-2012 at 10:09 PM. |

Re: Pottymouth Droid
Holy crap I can't wait to see this finished and hopefully get my hands on one. I want to make a base that is hooked up with a button that plays sound clips of him...possibly attached to a motion sensor.
I bet if you gifted Gearbox with one of these, there is a good chance they'd ask to license it and sell it in their online store. |

Re: Pottymouth Droid
TridCloudwalker,
Thanks, man! Yeah, I have a friend who knows two guys who work at GB. He's kind of planted that in my ear as well....sending them a finished copy. We'll see, I guess. Yeah, I originally hoped to offer a voice chip of some kind but I decided on offering a few different CT versions instead....red punk, boxing gloves and skull shield. Also, I think people are going to like the base I have planned. I'll wait until later to announce details but it's straight from the game. And like the roto-cast CT, it'll have compartments for electronics as well. Man, I really hope I get enough interest once I officially announce the finished kit! Joe |

Re: Pottymouth Droid
I haven't even played the game and I'm familiar with the character. Really enjoying this build so far, and really hoping that you offer up kits when you're done, as I'd love to do a custom one!

Re: Pottymouth Droid
Some updates...
...head top plate and body 99% done. All that is left is some light sanding and minor filling. ![]() ![]() ![]() Start of my V2 wheel. First one was off in dimensions... ![]() ...filling with foam... ![]() ...more foam... ![]() ...shaved down foam, now filling with Aves... ![]() ...wheel done, starting on treads... ![]() ...where I am at currently. I had to take off some treads due to miscalculating the spacing. The game model has 21 treads, I could have added another for 22 to easily correct my spacing but I decided to keep it accurate. ![]() Joe Last edited by joewhite; 01-02-2012 at 10:10 PM. |

Re: Pottymouth Droid
Another update. Everything is done except for the arms and wheel strut. I originally ordered the wrong tubing so I have to wait for the right ones to arrive. Aside from that, I just need to do some minor cleanup here and there.
Please, let me know what you think. Thanks! Joe ![]() ![]() ![]()
