RE: Comments @ the Hasbro toy's weird situation as a poor toy, wonderfully molded but frustrating to work with as a model, just think of it as a new set of modeling skills to develop! I'm just super happy to have a MF "in scale" with my other SW models... that would be 'air quotes', BTW.

GYoung, you should just grab a can of that 'car plastic bumper primer' and then some generic flat black & light gray (even white) paints in rattle-cans and see what happens! The ILM guys obviously used a black layer at some point (witness the marks from when parts left on their *own* orbits...), and it is a standard technique to 'pop' detail to spray light over dark colors (the dark naturally creating 'shadow' effects.) It is amazing what you can do even with spray cans and masking tape (obviously using low-tack tape or even the 'wet paper' masking technique just in case the primer fails to hold as it should.) And don't discount what can be achieved using a brush, especially using pastel chalks & super-thinned paint washes (even graphite dust from a regular pencil makes a great weathering medium.) With multiple layers of paint, creating the chipping effects seen on the original 5-footer is easy - just 'pick' at it with a #11 knife tip.

In short, your Hasbro MF can become the perfect 'test pig' for techniques you might apply to your D'Ag... MF - when it all arrives - and nothing to worry about with the results. Paint the windows glossy black (just gloss over the black undercoat!) and there you go. I think you will find that 1) it ain't really hard & 2) you'll have great fun doing it. Plus, if it *really* goes wrong, you can give it a dunk-wash of Simple Green, brake fluid, household ammonia or any of the other ad hoc paint removers and have another go. After all, the other Falcon won't really be ready for your attentions anytime soon...

Hi Guys!

To Mr. Tony & Mr. Salzo,

Any news on the resins kits? Still very much waiting for it...can't really move forward with the build without those amazing pieces. :)

Got hold of some Wizard of the Coast Gaming Figures (For Han I will use the RP Figure from Trongod/Tony, not yet received but shipped :) ) that will work nicely as I am planning to set up the cockpit based on the Asteroid Filed Scene from ESB.
IMG_1569.JPG
Started Pinwashing yesterday using the Technique from Fichtenfoo's Tut, The Upper Disc only has Preshading/Main Color and Filter applied.
IMG_1570.JPG
The Lower Disc has a first layer of Pinwash applied. Will do the upper Disc today and then start with streaking and what have you on the weekend.

I am using the Resin Kit from Randy Cooper and MAN!!! was that a Pain in the B.. to cut away all that crappy plastic and even more so as I am using Magnets instead of Gluing the kit and to get those in the right position for almost zero gaps was a real challenge. I want to be able to open the model if LED's or so needs to be changed or what have you...the Resin Kit is a Beauty though!!!, maybe not 100% accurate to the Studio Model, but for sure done the ILM way.

Cap't, might you post an image of those figs with a ruler next to them, to give some idea of their heights? Looking to scale the figures to the characters' heights (from Wikipedia & Google):
Mayhew (Chewie): 7'-3"
Ford (Solo): 6'-1"
Hamill (Skywalker): 5'-9"
Fisher (Leia): 5'-1"
Daniels (C3PO): 5'-9", 5'-10" with helmet (approximate)
R2D2: 3'-8.5" (normal upright configuration)
Guinness (Kenobi): 5'-10"

Cheers! Robert

Here we go

Comparison to that 1/48 Resin Pilot that Jaitea is modding at the mo, the size pretty much checks out to a 1/48 scale figure.

IMG_1589.jpg

I will also get the Bandai AT-ST soon...I hope, it on ist way since two weeks but no sign so far...might be stuck in customs :p
Anho, will compare the Chewie figure to the one I have from TWOC and take it from there.

Yep... those check out to 1:48 scale. Should be right in line with teh Hasbro Hero BMF. Gonna have to find something in 1:43 scale for my DeAgo Falcon

Wow, that was quick, Capt'n! Thanks for the images. They all look pretty much spot-on except for Han; he is a bit short even accounting for his pose. Are these metal figs? Now, to find a good source for them (!?)

RE: 1:43 scale figures (even if conversion is required...) those related to the miniature car collectors should be readily available - if expensive. Perhaps easier to use 1:40 scale figures from old Adams armor kits and just cut them down slightly. Preiser also makes 1:43 scale figs, though how extensive a range I don't know.

They are in some Sorta "Plastic" so adjustable if thats what u are asking. I put my Money on the Rapid Prototyping Han from Trongod/Tony from Shapeways anyway.

Its 11.81€ so no rip off for sure :).

and Ebay is the source... ;)

Aye, plastic makes for easier conversions, though I'd expect the most efficient method would be to make a mold, cast a few, then cut 'em up for reposing...

Speaking of eBay, I was checking it out there and did find a "few" listed, but no Han, Leia or Luke so far... plus some of the sculpting is only fair, unlike the Chewie example you have, that looks quite decent. The Bandai Chewie is straight as a board, pretty stiff. But again, a candidate for conversion.
