New BMF coming

I'm not a flacon expert but I hope someone here is and can answer a question for me. It seems like this MF has some dimensional issues. For example the canopy and docking bays seem oversized. Unless the landing gear is way too short there is no way the entry ramp can fold down completely b/c the bays almost touch the ground. Also the mandibles seem stubby. Any thoughts on all that?

I was taking measurements off my MR falcon and this one with a micrometer yesterday for creating side panels and such for this falcon. There are some dimensional issues. Its not a clean scaling factor in all dimensions - that being said its not drastically off but not just scale everything down by 0.875, there is some fiddling to do.

but it seems pretty consistent though... and yes the landing gear is WAY too short... I haven't figured out by how much yet but I'd guess at least 1/4 - 1/2 inch since at some point I'll be making landing gear for it I will be measuring... just not there yet.

I think the landing gear is supposed to retracted. Even though if it were it would be behind doors.

Since we know the Falcon appears in Ep. VII how cool would it be if there was a 28 inch miniature used in the film? That would make this SS!

Nah... they just put some landing skids molded in with no doors... but they are definitely "supposed" to be extended.... but way too short. They skimped on the plastic for the gear/gear doors ;)

They need to be cut off and redone completely with hanging doors and new gear.

Thanks, good to know I was not nuts about the landing gear. Any opinions on the mandibles? When I look at my MPC. Falcon they seem longer or more angled than the new Hasbro. Is it possible that Hasbro shortened them to fit in a standard box?

I know the details are not accurate to any one filming miniature, and I'm no Falcon expert, but this does replicate the ESB Falcon right? Or is it a ANH Falcon?

The MPC mandibles are longer than what they should be & the circular openinings too large,....I'll dig out some reference photos

The MPC is based on the 5 footer:

....and the Hasbro compaired to the 5 footer

The Hasbro looks VERY close to the dimensions of the 5 footer....well top view that is

Thanks Jaitea. Any opinions on the canopy and the docking hatches? On the Hasbro the campy diameter is equal to the docking ring but smaller than the dish. And again comparing it to the MPC, they look oversized on Hasbro.or, conversely, are they therefore undersized on the MPC?

Yeah the MPC's dish is oversized & canopy/tube is undersized.....the docking cones look a bit undersized & tapers too sharp to me......The jaw is too long & the hull curvature isn't pronounced enough.......but apart from that its a pretty good fun model.....honestly,.....so much can be done with it

The Hasbro looks like it has the dimensions of the 5 footer,.....lovely shape, but uses nearly all of the parts & greeblies from the 32" model....apart from the two parts that are on the upper hull that connect to the mandibles:

This part is from the 5 footer

The hull openings/service bays seem to all be of the 32'' version also....I'll have another check

This service bay seems to be based on the 5 foot 'jadgpanther' shape.....in fact the Hasbro part looks very similar to the MPC part....slightly different angles

as opposed to the 32'' opening (sorry I could only find a clear Hi-res image from a shot of the FineMolds kit)

there's a glue you can buy in oz called all plastics & toy glue made by selleys.it even specifies on the package that it glues polyethylene and polypropylene.
2 stage process but very simple.you apply a primer (which is included) to area you want to glue and then apply the glue itself.
i just picked up this glue and the new falcon toy yesterday but haven't tried it yet.

Let me know if this works as I will get some myself when I get back from O/S next year.

The maintenance pit shown in this image is also from the 5ft Falcon. Not yet sure about the others though as I have not checked.

Hi Jaitea -- that's my MPC -- that's my basement room floor! :)

Yes indeed crackerjazz I found them on a thread here a couple of years ago:
http://www.thereplicapropforum.com/...m-falcon-again-131375/index3.html#post2057316

....which encouraged me to do this......

cutc.jpg

......everything turned out fine,.......thanks for posting those images back in Ozzy's thread

By the way -- the sideview -- is the shape not close to the 5-footer's?

I haven't done any comparisons yet, but I think the Hasbro looks like it has the right curvature

.....on another note,....the Ep 7 Falcon looks like it has a lot of the 32' markings,.....I wonder if it has the same little 5foot bits slipped in......perhaps Hasbro knows something

J

As near as I can tell the Hasbro is a mix of the ANH and ESB falcons. Most of the greeblies are ESB based the general shape of the body also seems ESB. The ANH had a larger hull curvature. The greeblies for the side walls (the ones that are there) are all ESB based and 99% of the engine Deck are ESB based. The mandible pits don't seem to be really either one - kind of a mix of both and where Hasbro just took artistic license... unless some has better ANH reference that I do - they definitely do not match my MR falcon.

But since most of the greeblies seem to be ESB in my estimation I'm going with ESB side walls for mine.
