Fine Molds Slave 1 finished the build!

Re: Fine Molds Slave 1 build. Finally started on the LEDs

thx Randy! Can't wait till thursday to see all the lights working.

After spending so much time on the paintscheme of the Slave, I noticed something odd today in the actual movie footage:
The paintjob just seemed off. At first I thought I was looking at an image of somebody's model build, then I realized:

The image of the slave is flipped when boarding ! When it flies off, it's the okay. No clue why they made that mistake during filming. Maybe they wanted to show the hangar door on the blue screen, but decided to do it differently in the edit with the open space of the clouds.

I flipped it back. So this is how they shot it originally. Makes no sense now, since the ship flips between two scenes.. Hence my presumption the background was planned differently.

I believe that shot you have attached is actually a Matte painting. Not sure if the painting was done incorrectly in the first place, or was flipped

Yeah, it's one of the hardest things on this build I agree. The airbrushing is done in minutes, but the masking from reference is a long proces for every layer. Even I found it hard to replicate it on that second build.

They did that with boba in Jabbas throne room too, the eye piece is on the wrong side.
It may have been an oversight but when they were editing the film cells they may have turned them around and spliced them backwards and no one caught it.
Fun movie stuff all through out the saga, if your looking for it.

Re: Fine Molds Slave 1 build. Finally started on the LEDs

The matte is a mounted photo with a painted canopy and environment.

This is an amazing job you've done! I love the lights and base looks awesome. You even have working lights in the HIC. :eek I would like to see more pictures and videos of this.

Yeah, drilling through it with a 0.25mm was terrible, since it's die cast metal, not plastic. Otherwise it would have been littered with light too ;)

Finished my video of the model so enjoy:

Some great side effect when the battery runs low: engine and ceiling leds start flashing too in a random order! (all those leds suck the battery dry in a couple of hours, but hey, it's rechargable :) )

something else that might be interesting to the community:
Jos, who made the adjustable ledboard for me said that now he's worked out the schematics for the board we might get it into production if enough people are interested.
It can be used for any other build that needs some flashing and can be made pretty small. dimensions of the prototype are 5x4x1.5 mm. Think it can be reduced to 4x3x1.5mm or smaller. Here's a peak inside.

Still need to tidy up the inside ;)

ILM called, they want their model back, and they commented how much better it looks too! AMAZING! seriously,, you hit a grand slam with this one.

As promised so more pictures of the model. Could use some more wheatering at some spots maybe. What do you think?
Afraid to kill it if I do to much. Would like to get the panel lines out with a wash, but haven't mastered that technique...
