Ewing build

Great work, CutThumb!
New to this forum and seeing a better caliber of modeling than on other forums!

Beautiful work, cograts!:cool

Regards,

Scott

Thanks for the comments I'm very gratefull. I won't go so far to call the E nameless and inanimate before I had a go at messing with its design, thats a bit harsh . It remains a very sleak and well designed craft by Frank and Moe. Best one I've seen remains the Guy Cowen slave colour version. I just beefed mine it up abit for planetary atmosphere opps where sand abrassion could take its toll!
Talking of which here are some pics of the X. Its taken me awhile because I'm finishing off a Swift and a Discovery at the same time. The colour schemes are very similar so i want to paint them at the same time as the X ie lots off off whites. I wouldn't recommend doing as many again, it gives you a bit of a headache.

CutThumb,

my last comments concerning the E-wing only refer to what you have accomplished with your paint job. In other words, before a model is painted, it is a names-less ship, since it has not been designated. The model also looks inanimate before being painted, since a paint job with weathering gives it character and life. I do like the design elements you have added; however, I also like the original ship design and I even complimented the producers of this kit for their excellent job of molding it in my first post in this thread. In fact, everything I have ever written in this thread was meant as a compliment to everyone involved in the designing, producing or building of this model.

Thanks,
Barryjoe.

Absolutely beautiful paint job! Definitely giving me a lot of ideas for my upcoming models. Could you go into a bit more detail about how you achieved the rust-bucket look?

Two years on and I'm finally finishing things off.

Wings with stripping. I always felt the wings didn't feel right in their unmarked state as per the Ralph McQuarrie painting. But the interesting thing is you can't actually see whats supposed to be on top of them anyway. So this is my interpretation, and it links to the subsequent filmed X wing colour scheme.

Franks flawless casting ,now with added orange.

Added in a small amount of detail to the wing edge and I also sanded the face of the engine mouth flat so I can paint in the thin beige semi circle around it.Looking at the detail in the RM picture its the only way I could think of doing it

I've also slightly altered the lazers main body to look more like the other RM painting of the X wings in the trench. Totally open to interpretation but it was one of the very few things on the REL build that felt a little adrift to concept.

I am working on the jpg resin kit of the e-wing. You are putting mine to shame. Excellent details and modifications. Paint job is perfect.

Thanks. Both kits were very well cast and required very little work, which made the alterations easy to do.Lots of masking and airbrushing ,weather was was so hot the nozzle was actually blocking due to paint drying and building up. Bit cooler today after a terrific thunderstorm. Working on the wings next, lightly weathered.

Last lap. Bulk of her finished now and put together. Some colour to add and a little more light weathering here and there but the CX basically finished. I've altered the paint scheme slightly, and ignored the inked black lines in the illustration because that was the only way then to show the paneling.Sort of gone for a light battle worn look. Pleased that its mostly done now. for those that have asked but NOT read the rest of the thread, ask Frank (Brundlefly) if these are still available as he has the masters. Also worth bearing in mind is this is the X design they are going with in the new "Rebels" animation.Got to look for those decals now!!

Found the decal sheets so I used them. I haven't gone too heavy with all of them as they looked slightly off but I've kept the main ones around the wing engine intakes and around the cockpit etc. Really like the design the more I look at it, but I feel this ship comes AFTER the OT X wings ,not before!! Its just too neat, sleek and curved. Also added some bits to the E wing to finish that off completely, like shortening the canopy window and adding some interesting greeblies just above and behind the cockpit. So they are done now ( or at least until I can think of something else to add to them).
