BSG Agro Ship / Botanical Cruiser
A client asked me to build this ship as a practical filming model in a relative size to his studio scale TOS Galactica.
Off-the-shelf materials needed to facilitate the build dictated its size to be 66 inches. I'll be using the studio files of the ship for the build. These are some low res images that were sent with the info file that I can post here. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Aluminum armature for what will be a very heavy model ![]() Bass wood and pine over the armature and styrene and plexi for the body panels. 4 mounting points - F/R, L/R ![]()

Re: BSG Botanical Cruiser / Agro Ship
Thanks womo and Randy for taking an interest.
The Agro Ship is a somewhat lesser known subject to be modeling, but it's a beautiful design IMO. |

Re: BSG Agro Ship / Botanical Cruiser
The middle engine slides into the rear armature mount. The styrene fins surrounding the pipes are laser cut.
The inner rings are from Airfix saturn 5 kits, the larger rings are cut from space shuttle main fuel tanks. ![]() The tapered fins at the rear of the engines and the wood strips with holes were lasered. ![]() LOTS of engines ![]() The grill detail was also cut on the laser from bass wood.

This funny looking dude goes on the rear-sides of the engine section.
I still need to hollow out his (eyes) to match the part on the CG model. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks great! You should hide a tiny Huey, Duey and Luey on there somewhere.

Re: BSG Agro Ship / Botanical Cruiser
Damn CGI may be the only way these Sci fi shows can get made but I have to say that nothing beats a real Model, already it looks better than the renderings. Looking forward to the finish model.

What laser system are you using for cutting? Brandon |

Re: BSG Agro Ship / Botanical Cruiser
Very cool, will be watching!
So the client wants a new show agro ship with his TOS Galactica? I don't know what the differences are between the CG ship and the TOS version, but there has to be some. (I guess reference would be an issue there...) |

Would have been a nice homage to the history of domed ships. Last edited by ShowCraft; 05-18-2011 at 10:07 AM. |

CG ship is what you see here - TOS version was stock footage of the valley Forge from the movie Silent Running. Last edited by ShowCraft; 05-18-2011 at 10:46 AM. |

Re: BSG Agro Ship / Botanical Cruiser
The one the client has, is it from the old or new Gallactica? If the latter, I didn't know they used real models for the exterior shots. Are you building a ship from the old Gallactica?
Almost finished up BSG, and I have to say it's my favorite show as far as real sets and ships go. CG is cheap, but I love a real space ship set. |

I'm currently working with a 50 watt Versa Laser with a 24x12 table. I used to have an Epilog 25 watt. I like them both equally. Zero problems with either - just keep the mirrors clean! Last edited by ShowCraft; 05-22-2011 at 10:21 PM. |

When I look at this ship as you put it together it really reminds me of the Nebuchadnezzar. Awesome build though.
