Hey Master Chief,
I only discovered this thread this morning and it's been captivating. It would be a shame if this never got completed —so I apologize if I'm out of line here or for asking a dumb question— but have you considered a Kickstarter campaign?
I was personally able to get materials funded for a metal shaping project at KS (copper is uber $$$ so I reached out for some crowd funding). Granted, what I raised probably doesn't nearly equate to what you may need, but it's definitely free to try. You could offer your book as one of the tier level gifts for supporters, small resin castings for lower tier support, etc.. Hell, if your original benefactor has backed out completely, you could offer the model herself to a top-tier funder (what that number is I have no clue, but I've seen crazy numbers get funding for much less valuable objects).
Anyway, I don't know if there are any design patents or copyright issues involved, but the Kickstarter community is keen on seeing art projects getting finished. This certainly qualifies and you certainly deserve every possible opportunity to see this through.
