Hogwarts Studio Model

So I went to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour at Leavesden Studios today. I've gotta say, as impressive as the studio tour overall is (you've got the full Great Hall set, Hagrids hut, the Potions classroom, Gryffindor common room and bedroom, parts of the Ministry, more or less every major prop you can think of, Diagon Alley, Privet Drive, the Potter family house.......I could go on), in my opinion the most impressive part of the tour is the 1/24 scale Hogwarts "bigature" (favourite word the LOTR behind the scenes taught me). The thing is absolutely spectacular, and as soon as you turn the corner into the room it completely takes your breath away (actually made me a little emotional hehe).

Anyway, thought i'd post up the pictures of the model. I gotta be honest, you can't get right up to it, there's only a couple of places where you can get a camera right into it, and there was a lot of people there, but I tried to get a good spread of angles and lighting (they had a day/night cycle going on with the lights)

No pictures do the size of this thing justice. It's gotta be about 15 foot high, and about 20/25 foot in diameter.

Also i'm going to add these as links rather than in the actual post, i've dropped the images down to 2k, but they're still in the 2/3MB range:

Enjoy. If you want larger resolution images, let me know.

At some point i'll sort through the rest of the pictures and put up the prop and set pictures in the Screen Used Forum

I've just saved these and wanted to just thank you for sharing them, it looks stunning.

Once again thanks for sharing!

So awesome - thanks for sharing :)

I find it encouraging when studios still spend their time (and money) in creating real scale models -- there's just something about them that blends so much better than CGI (no matter how amazing CGI has gotten).

Thank you so much for these! I love this model and there's been almost no good reference for it aside from screencaps until now. Brilliant!

(y)thumbsup:thumbsupWONDERFUL photos....thank you so much for sharing these. What an amazing creation this is. It really gets my imagination going. I only wish I could see it in person!

That is awesome! Can't imagine that will ever be open to public viewing?

That's the point, it IS open to public viewing:

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London

Basically they've opened up 2 soundstages (J and K), and a small portion of backlot, and are displaying most of the props and alot of the sets from the HP films there. Apparently they're also intending to have the props from the other films that have been made there on display in the future. It's a pretty cool place.

Coming from a guy who only digs SW stuff that have weird kit bits stuck to them.......this model is beyond awesome....and your pics are superb, imagine having that in the living room with a model Loco chuffing around!

I love these things, I used to watch the minatures sections on the LOTR behind the scenes dvds over and over.

It was too bad that the lighting wasn't great in that room, so I had to keep waiting for it to get to the "midday" setting on the lights, although it does look pretty cool in low light as well. I could have stayed there for hours taking pictures of every angle, but after about 10/15 minutes the GF was itching to move on...

Definitely worth a trip if you're down that way though.
