In the movie The Mummy, the Warden, one Gad Hassan by name, wears quite an extensive costume.
He wears this old, beat up prospector style shirt with a detachable collar, necktie, pinstripes, slacks, tweed jacket, linen scarf, puttees, braces, chechia hat, a pair of rings, two different belts (one a double Sam Browne, the other a gun holster belt), and boots.
Each of these, I’ve been able to identify, but there is one thing I can’t: the warden wears some sort of waist sash thing. If I had to guess, I’d say it was made of muslin, but I can’t identify it. At one point, I speculated that it was a sort of cummerbund, since the film takes place in the 1920s, and there was a short time in which men wore cummerbunds instead of vests during the summers. After a while, I thought it might be, at the suggest of another person, a sort of cholera belt. Still another person suggested that it isn’t a piece of clothing at all: it’s just a rag he tied around his waist to cushion the belts.
But I still don’t know what it could be.
