Don't start packing up your lawn chairs and igloo coolers just yet, but there will once again be "camping out" for a Star Wars movie. IESB has learned some news about the future of the Star Wars franchise. First, let me remind our readers of IESB's past scoops so anyone doubting the news will be aware. From Joss Whedon directing the Avengers, to the recent announcement of Disney's planned renegotiation of the Paramount Marvel deal, to the countless casting scoops, directing scoops, to our solid sources at Lucasfilm.
Confirmed IESB scoops specific to the Star Wars universe include the first announcement of the PG-13 rating of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, the first word of a live action Star Wars TV series as well as the Clone Wars animated series. Yes, all of these Lucasfilm scoops were all first reported here on IESB.
Now on to our newest big Lucasfilm scoop, ready? George Lucas is plotting to create new Star Wars movies at the ultra top-secret Skywalker Ranch.
This is déjà vu of the mid 90's when Uncle George starting tweaking the Holy Trilogy to gear up for the Special Editions. That was his first step in moving forward with the eventual prequel trilogy.
It's happening all over again, Lucasfilm is already hard at work converting the entire Star Wars saga into 3D which will be released starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 2012. The word from our ultra top-secret Lucasfilm insider is that Lucas has gotten the itch and is already looking ahead into launching an entirely new trilogy in that galaxy far, far away.
What do we know? First of all, these new film will have nothing to do with the live action television series currently in development. That show already has over 50 scripts ready to go and plenty of pre-production time and money has been spent on artwork and storyboards. Once that show goes into production, Lucasfilm hopes to be able to produce at least 100 episodes since that is the threshold for syndication in the United States.
IESB has been told fans can expect the new trilogy after the entire saga is released in 3D which is expected to be complete around 2015 or 2016.
Uncle George's modus operandi has not changed, the plan is that he will self finance the new trilogy after he rakes in an expected $500 - $750 million dollars with the re-release of the entire Star Wars Saga in 3D and on Blu-Ray.
The ideal plan, according to our spy at Skywalker Ranch, is to be able to release a new Star Wars film within 24 months after the release of the last re-re-release (is that right?) of Return of the Jedi 3D.
Too early for story details but one thing that our source is certain about, they will not be prequels but instead sequels. It's not for certain if they will be the long awaited Episodes 7, 8 and 9 but could instead be Episodes 10, 11 and 12 or possibly even further out in the Star Wars timeline. And by giving space in the timeline, possibly even as far as 100 years or 1,000 years in the Star Wars universe future, Lucas avoids having to make these stories "fit in" with what the previous stories have told.
According to our sources, the most likely scenario for the films is that they will exist in the same universe but will not have anything to do with the Skywalker Clan. That story has been told, that starship has sailed.
What has caused this sudden change of heart for Uncle George? Well, besides the obvious possible billions that a new Star Wars trilogy will take in, our source tells us that George has gotten motivated with the success the Clone Wars animated series, the video games and also with the success of Avatar.
Can we expect Lucasfilm to confirm our story? Have they ever? Nope, I am sure that they will spin this or completly deny the story, but we will stand 100% behind our source.

Cool 3 more movies for everyone to moan about and MicDavis to moan about people moaning about them.

if this is tru, i will finally give up on george. hes always said he didnt want to make any films after jedi, that the story ended there. even tho in the past hes stated he wanted to do 9 movies. sheesh. will this man ever tell the truth about anything.

On that time table, neither I or GL will see the end of another trilogy.

Granted he has a better chance of downloading his consciousness into an android than I.

Technically, I think the idea of doing nine went away after the Zahn trilogy came out.

Still, I don't buy that it'll happen any more than the live action show.

The rumor has been officially denied by Lucasfilm so I wouldn't be surprised to hear an official announcement some time next year.

When Lucas said there would be nine films, I think he got carried away and overestimated the potential of the story. ROTJ has near complete closure, and frankly I fear he might only mess things up with another sequel trilogy.

Lucas is the God of the Star Wars films, so I doubt that he will relinquish control over that part, for all its flaws, it is still his vision. So I doubt very much he'll simply film some of the books or comics.

If he would do a new trilogy with the original cast he might well be tempted to go the Cameron way and replace the aging cast with CGI Avatars. We know he loves his technology, that he doesn't relate well to actors and that he would rather have everybody Jar Jar Binked.

Barring Lucas handing over control of the films to somebody else, I fear that any potential sequels will be more in the line of the prequels than the OT.

Agreed.
Lucas is as much hostage to Star Wars as those who claim they are done with Star Wars yet can't resist chiming in on any Star Wars topic to remind people that they are done with Star Wars.
The re-release in 3d of the current two trilogies almost seems to be priming the next generation to come for 'new' Star Wars.

I had some suspicions about new Star Wars movies when the TV series stalled - for the amount they were projecting it to cost I imagine it might have passed Lucas mind that new movies would be a cheaper and more attractive proposition, particularly in light of the 3d door Avatar opened which is definitely the sort of thing that flips Lucas' wig.

Regarding the content - Lucas has said previously that if he were to do more Star Wars it would be events far in the past of the current trilogies. Also hasn't Yoda's history been strictly off limits for the EU?

Won't he be dead before they're done? I don't buy it.

If this does turn out to be true, I hope there'll be either a competent writer penning the scripts, or plenty of No men to shoot down Lucas' when he puts bad ideas into his script.

But of course, that won't happen.

everytime I see some of his posts i think of these guys..he has to have been a stand in

It's weird, I remember the feeling of excitement I felt when the prequels were first announced. I even remember the exact moment that I read in the news paper that it was going to happen.

Even if the above is 100% accurate, it just doesn't stir in me the same excitement that I once felt for the franchise. The entire prequel triology is really a lesson for film makers in what NOT to do. I hope others can learn from George's mistakes :lol

Maybe they'll suck. Maybe they won't. But at this point, I just can't muster the give-a-crap.

I don't find George Lucas' stories entertaining these days. In the past, sure. But our tastes have moved in different directions over the past decade or so.

No, you're all wrong. It's always been TWELVE movies.

I bet Francis Ford Coppola is thrilled. He's still waiting for Lucas to pick up where he left off with American Graffiti and the first Apocalypse Now project. What can Coppola think of Lucas' output over the last ten years...? lol...

Ep. VII Return of the DeadGuy or How the Empire Struck Back, Again.

The movie starts with Palpatine hitting the floor of the reactor shaft. He gets up, dusts himself off and hops in the conveniently located escape pod.

In a dreamy flashback scene, we see Palpy scooping up the remains of darth maul, who also fell down a reactor shaft (note to sith - stop fighting near reactor shafts), and storing them in some carbonate (it has an extra oxygen molecule - for extra fizziness), which he conveniently places in an escape pod, for later use.

Back in real-time, Palpy escapes before the DSII explodes. He lands on yet another single-climate planet (perhaps this one is all mud), where he goes on to build the half-Maul, half-Chicken monstrosity that we always see pictures of.



So far, that's all I've got, But I'm sure Uncle George will expand on that premise. Feel fre to expand on it, if you wish - George could use all the help he can get.

I nearly spit my soda out at the comparison. I agree that some of the crap we say about Lucas is probably over the top but the guy does change his mind alot. He's kinda gone from visionary director to rich oddball. Still i wouldn't mind maybe another trilogy that takes place far in the future. I always enjoy the post ROTJ novels.

I recall a poster here likening some peoples attitude to Star Wars like that of a jilted lover that just cannot accept things have changed and they're incapable of moving on. Certainly an apt comparison.
