Since everyone has been asking have you seen this thread?

My biggest issue with that thread's modern shield is that it is made from cast iron. If you live in any areas with some humidity, that's going to rust eventually. Within 3 years if you live in a coastal city like I do

But the craftmanship and paintjob look superb and its a great prop for people who live in the right conditions for it. I just hope the upcoming Museum replicas version looks as nice!

i had one spun out of aluminium, ships tuesday so i'll post pics when it gets here if anyone is interested. i went with 26" and 3" deep. I'm 6'3 so the 26" diameter hits at the right spots if you look at any comic pic where he's just standing there holding the shield. if he truly used a 30" shield he'd have to be taller than 6'7 for it to even be accurate with positioning. now i just have to figure out where to get my leather straps so i can do the back accurate to the movie. also the movie shields are different sizes, they used 3 different shields during production, each for its own purpose. back/arm/fighting.

I know this is an old thread... But i thought i would clear up some of the measurements. Wrote them down a long time ago when we had the genuine ones pass through my work as im a specialist packer by trade. These were for the first avenger movie. A couple of normal ones. Two plain silver ones and two battle damaged ones.
I recently also had the stunt rubber shield come in so got to check the measurements on that too. Thought id share with you guys.

The genuine metal shields are definitely alloy. It was 26". Approximately 3.5" in depth. Outer ring (red)was 3 1/4". Next one in (silver) was 2 3/4". Followed by the last ring (red) that was 2 3/4". The centre ring was 9".
The finish was not painted. It was obviously spun metal. It was definitely anodised. There was no mask lines. To me it had been dipped and fully anodised red.. Then the silver. Stripe lathed off. The centre was not 1 piece. The blue segments looked separate from the star. The blue pieces were also anodised. Then i guess they were all stuck into place.
Finally the inside had been painted a silver colour.

As for the rubber stunt shield.
Was 24". Again approx 3.5" deep. Outer stripe (red) was 2 3/4". Second one in (silver) was 2 1/2" and the inner red was 2 1/2". Centre circle was 9"

This was just poorly painted with crappy handles on the inside.

Hope this lot helps. Kept hold of this knowing eventually i would get round to making one/having one made to the exact specs of the one i saw.

Thanks so much for this. It's never too late to learn more about these beautiful props!
