Star Trek Romulan Commander

STOOOPID costume! I'm walking away right now for a few hours. I'm very frustrated. I have the shell done, but the arms I cut were too thin for my fat arms so I have to cobble pieces together. I need to sew a zipper down the back to get in and out, and it doesn't have to be pretty because my wig will cover it. I decided to work with what I already had and I'm glad I did because it's almost 4 PM and my package has not arrived.

God I would so kill for a dress form.

Love the Moonbase look! UFO is still my favorite all time show!
I've got a dress form sitting in the back yard starting to rust.
Are you anywher near Florida? It's yours if you want it.

Forgot to thank you, Apollo, and you too, Interceptor6.

Ape City is all the way over continental divide, so bummer! Gosh a dress form would just make life so much easier.

I will try to find a dress form on Craigslist.

This must be the stinkiest costume I have ever sewn. I'm so SOL. Going to take a mini break, and I think 3 more hours to fuss with the left sleeve and collar. Collar will be difficult, and not looking forward to that hurdle. And I still have to hem it. Gah!!!!

And I just found out I have to wake up early to pick up my friend so we can be there by 9:30/9:45. I am not a morning person. I am so not liking this.

Thank you for listening!

I'm going to redo my costume eventually. I believe that the silver/gold/black part of the outfit is just fabric beneath a crocheted piece.

I'll try to post photos of the costume I wore today, which wasn't perfect, so it needs to be redone. It would have been so much better with a dress form. I'm going to look for a cheap dress form and reconstruct it someday. It's going to bug me until I do that. I stayed up until 1 AM trying to complete the dress. Funny how your mind plays tricks so late into the night.

Look at this gigantic Klingon:

You look amazing!

I can only wonder how you would look if you were satisfied with your costume. The fabric combination is really cool!
Nicely done.

You looks fantastic! That knitting is spot on!!

It's been great following you on this costume... your hard work definitely paid off. :)

Some great photos there too. Those Andorians are hilarious! haha!

Thanks Guri, Tictoc, Felgacarb. It was a really really fun convention. I entered the contest but did not place. Oh well. I was thinking of dressing up as Miramani when the Star Trek Convention next comes to town.

I'm going to re-do the outfit after I invest in a dress form. I am convinced the silver part of the outfit is crocheted as well...The whole outfit can just fit me better with a dress form. It must!

The other scary thing about this outfit was that I only had 1.5 yards to work with, so the black area of the dress is the reverse of the silver/gold. Oh yeah...and I have to remember to draw the rest of my eyebrows in until they grow back. Hate that but oh well.

Hey it turned out great if you ask me as guri said the knitting is spot on!

Man oh man that Klingon was HUGE!!!!!! :lol

You could always make a paper tape sewing form of yourself- All you need is $5 roll of paper shipping tape, (Office Depot, etc.) paramedic scissors, a sacrificial T-shirt, a bunch of stuffing to fill it with, and most importantly, someone you can train to apply the tape to you...

:lol Having know George since 1975 I can tell you that if he had the chance he would have done just that! :lol

OMG...I think I can make Romulan fabric out of this...I am going to order a bunch and see if it works or not! It may not be exact but it could be close!

I'm just going to jump in here and put in my two cents. ^.^ I was blessed with the chance to visit a Star Trek Exhibition today (which was soososososoooo cool!!) where quite a few costumes were on display. Though the Romulan costume you are hoping to make was not there, another Romulan outfit was. If I am not mistaken, the dress you want to make is of the same material as the top layer of these pants. I was told by the guide that the mesh-looking material is actually a layer of material that is(was?) put down under carpets. Crazy, right? :) Oh and yes, the Romulan belt buckle is indeed painted bubble wrap.

As a side-note, the pictures on the page linked above were taken at the Louisville Science Center- the location I went to to see the ST Exhibition!! Sadly, we weren't allowed to take photos of our own, but apparently this reporter person had special privileges. :/

Great find. I think it will look pretty good.

You should know the original material was an upholstery fabric referred to as "Ribbon Fabric."

Post pics of your progress.

Good luck!
