Definitive Clockwork Orange Costume

Has anyone here ever done a completely 100% accurate Alex costume from Clockwork Orange?

I think that the codpiece is the key to the costume. I have heard that it was a groin protector for Cricket players.

Has anyone ever found the exact codpiece?

Alex De Large A Clockwork Orange

I know this if brought up every Halloween but I couldn't find anything in the search. It surprises me that this hasn't been nailed down yet. I've heard the cod piece could be from cricket or fencing. I can't find it in either.

Shirt, codpiece and cane. Does anybody have anything?

I'm assuming you've seen this site? If not, take it in while you can. Geocities is closing soon.

If I remember correctly the suspenders are harder to come by than the cod piece. Good luck with your search!

I know some one just posted recently on here that Alex's bowler went up for sale some where.

To put together an exact replica would cost me as much as finishing my GB costume (which I don't have the money for) so I guess I'm falling into the "close enough" category this year.

Instead of cricket pants I'm going to go with cheaper baseball pants. Stretchy and not as see through as most white pants and about $11.00 shipped.

Surprisingly, a cheap collarless shirt isn't as easy to come by as I thought. Off to Goodwill!

Not sure what they're known as in other parts of the world, but in the U.K. we call 'em Grandad shirts.
The codpiece is somewhat similar to a dance belt, but was probably a custom item.

Incorrect. Heard Malcolm Mcdowell speak at Dragoncon last month and he said the costume was tossed together at the last minute out of junk in his car for the most part includeing his Cricket groin protector that the director told him to put on on top of everything else instead of under it like it usually goes. Dunno what make/model or anything but it's definitly cricket gear.

There is probably alot of truth to this. However I don't think it likely that a director like Kubrick, with well documented obsession to detail, would not have looked at the cricket "box" first and then had wardrobe make up some to fit the other Droogs. You can clearly see from the photo above how the shape changes to fit the Droog wearing it. Not all of them played cricket like Mcdowell.

Oh and not that it matters, but that housing estate used in the film and in the photo above is only half an hour away from where I live.

Here are the Suspenders:

They are EXACTLY like the ones Malcolm wears in the film, and are impossible to find usually.

Good Luck,
Laffo.

Gee, they shouldn't be that hard to find - they are a very standard formalwear accessory. Here are some for $25:

Here are some for formal military attire for $14:

A quick Google search found collarless dress shirts surprisingly available in the UK, not so easy to find in the US. The cheapest one I could find was here, $45:

I did research on this costume when I had to make small scale replicas for a costume thingie. The groin protector is without doubt the hardest part to find. If it was what MMcD said, they don't even make them like that anymore. But it is a very simple shape to replicate, and you can use a wide variety of cheap fabrics.

Good luck.

Rick

PS - Ah, found my old link! Here's the closest thing I could find for the codpiece:

Thats not a bad set up. Nice find.
I was watching the film last night and made some observations:
Alex's shirt appears to be corduroy with two breast pockets in a western (cowboy)style with front and back yoke.
The eyeball cuffs are different colours, one blue and one hazel or brown.
The sword cane appears to be Irish Blackthorn.

Anybody making any progress on this costume?

I picked up a really nice vintage Dunn&Co of London Bowler hat the other day.

I found some quite good plastic imitation eyeballs from a company in china on ebay for the cuffs.

I also found quite a good alternative to sourcing a real Irish Blackthorn stick (which can be expensive as they are prized by collectors, and also being natural products are hard to find conforming to the correct shape of Alex's)
here's a link

Yep, thats the one. It's quite close to Alex's, maybe the thorns stems are little more pronounced but his does have them in the film.
