Farnsworth Discussion

Anything new on that end?

I don't know about everyone else on this thread, but I'm just putting the final touches to the 'Claudia' version of the Farnsworth (see below). After having spent the summer finishing the Tesla pistol (and a second Tesla presentation case), I resurrected the 'Claudia's Farnsworth' project, as I have a commission to make one for a prop collector, and I had this one already partially built - it was waiting for a 'lightbulb' moment to get around the video controls problem, and necessity truly being the mother of invention, I had to think outside the box and solve it (in true steampunk style I might add). If you've seen my 'plain brown' version with the working sound and video, this one has all of that plus the radar screen and sound effect, that I had to create from scratch, based on the few clips of it working in that one particular episode. Next up, for the same collector, is Artie's desk stand for the Farnsworth, and after that I have to make the touchpad device on Artie's desk. (And try to squeeze in another couple of Star Wars thermal detonators for other collectors). 2018 looks busy, for a while at least. I've posted videos of the Tesla pistol projects over on Facebook, in the 'Warehouse 13 (artifacts & agents)' group, and will be posting a showcase video of this Farnsworth soon, if any of you guys are interested.

Sorry, don't want to read the whole thread. Did anyone make a Farnsworth with a working screen? Also I didn't find any parts listed in the orignal post for the screen, what did you guys use?

Thanks to Kylash I am updating the template now and will post a final one once I know the exact corner roundness.

Cutting a run will take a little longer than I hoped. Cutting 2mm brass seems to need a 1kW Laser, which is not too common and deep engraving the number circle will need a CNC mill, laser cutters seem to do only surface engraving on metal

Final version unless someone wants to object. Checked the size and think I found the perfect corner roundness to fit a Wheatley. Will do a test cut with fake brass soon.

All the links are dead and looks like no parts can be found anymore. :(

Here's what I have saved:
Switch: NTE 54-383 Switch Mini Pushbutton SPST On-On Bla... from Wholesale Electronics
Lamp: NTE CML1051A1 red 250V neon pilot light with res... from Wholesale Electronics (this is just a possible one; my original link was no longer valid, so I searched the site for a 1/2" domed panel lamp and found the one linked here)
Dial/Knob: BK 751-067-9-002 knob... from Wholesale Electronics

I hope this helps.

Im pretty sure all the info needed is in the thread. Most part numbers are in the first post. Links are dead but a quick search will come up with them.

Zombie Killer,
I gave him links to parts he could actually order and buy, that *do* look like the ones used.
You gave him no switch;
a link to 25 different knobs without specifying which one (the 1910cs), from a site you can't even order from, you have to request a quote;
and not a light, but a lens *only*, where the minimum quantity to buy is 100.

I was attempting to be more helpful than the dead/unhelpful links and admonitions to 'google it' were.

But you have inspired me to be more thorough, so here's my updated link list for maxhebus:

I was just illustrating the proper parts could be found with a little legwork since the part numbers are in the thread, I wasnt really interested in doing said legwork though since i did it a few times before. I just didnt want to see him waste money on incorrect parts.
That red light is still wrong., its just a lens not a long light like that. There is only about 1/2" space behind the plate and that one is too long.
