Marcus,

please read through the thread and check out other folks' builds over at the405th.com. You'll find everything you're asking about has already been explained.

Re: HALO Master Chief Costume Progress Thread

Re: HALO Master Chief Costume Progress Thread

I've been following your progress both here and over at the 405th for a long time now and I must say it's been wonderful to see this all come together finally. Well done and awesome work as always. It's been an absolute inspiration for my own build!

Re: HALO Master Chief Costume Progress Thread

this is really inspiring and informative and funny. Makes me want to make a couple myself :)

Thank you for that :)

And keep up the good work

Re: HALO Master Chief Costume Progress Thread

I just realized I've been neglecting this thread, so here's a massive update:

First off, I've started getting some of the guys to come out for photoshoots and some video filming. Here's pics from the first of those:

As I may have mentioned before, I've been refining my undersuit design:
5359467288_e799cc51c9_o.jpg

The main reason for these half-sleeves is to hold up the bicep armor:

This is the only picture I took of the inside while I was making it:

Here I am trying it on with the helmet:
5377317262_3dd6728c02_o.jpg

The parachute buckles will be to attach the straps that will hold up the thigh armor. There's a matching set on the back:

Here's what it looks like with the arms:
5377317156_21a5759a62_o.jpg

I left it loose so it will fit someone with bigger arms. If it was tighter it wouldn't have all of the gathering problems at the elbows.

Here's the whole torso rig on:

In other news, I've finalized my undersuit design. Sadly, the last time I got dressed up for pictures, my designated photographer failed me. This is the best pic I've got of the undersuit parts all together:
5422481354_d9c68c5957_o.jpg

The main problem was that I was waiting for one of the guys to get out of work and we didn't get started with pictures until just after the sun set. So most of the pics had horrible lighting like so:

Given my poor, self-taught photoshopping skills, the best I've managed to do for fixing any of them is like so:
5422481634_9ef377236d_o.jpg

I've unloaded the green suit to pay for more materials, so I won't be taking any more pictures of it.

In other news, I rushed through the building of three undersuits back in January because I was invited to the Exploratorium in San Francisco to set up an exhibit as part of their monthly Open Make program. I set up a few pieces to show the process I used to build my armor as well as a few other prop replicas and sculpts. I also brought a couple of the guys in full armor to get people's attention. So here's how my day started before they opened their doors:

While I was stuck at the table answering questions and whatnot, the guys wandered all over the place and got some really great photos:

But wait! There's more!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So there are 34,000 words in the Flickr set from that day: Open Make at the Exploratorium - a set on Flickr

If that's not enough, here's a video clip:

The plan was to be filming every week or so, but we're falling behind.

As always, stay tuned...

Loving the suits. Very accurate looking and love the Vespa shot.

Re: HALO Master Chief Costume Progress Thread (huge pile of new pics on p.18)

If any of you are in the SF Bay Area and would like to see a few of these outfits in action, I'm doing an exhibit at the Maker Faire in San Mateo on the 21st and 22nd of May.

More information can be fount at this link: Maker Faire: Events filled with DIY projects, science, demos, recycling, entertainment, and fun

Between now and then, I need to get back to the states, crank out a few more suits, and finish up my H3 Marine costumes. Stay tuned for more on that...

Wow, just read through the entire thread. I've got to say Thor, you are probably the most patient, skilled and dedicated builder I've seen to date on these forums. This work is truly phenomenal and I can only hope you continue to share your hard work with the community.

Re: HALO Master Chief Costume Progress Thread (huge pile of new pics on p.18)

I have to agree. Watching this build makes me wish I never put my suit on the backburner. I just might have to brush off the cob webs and finish mine in hopes I can get mine to look half as good as yours. Bravo!

Re: HALO Master Chief Costume Progress Thread (huge pile of new pics on p.18)

I seriously, seriously love this thread. I sat here the entire time gasping, ohhing and aaahhhing. I have a love (some call it obsession) of everything Halo. I'm in the process of getting my armor made and have to say your attention to detail, inventiveness is unlike anything I've seen. Keep it up and can't wait to see more!

Re: HALO Master Chief Costume Progress Thread (huge pile of new pics on p.18)

Hey, thanks for referring me to your thread Thorssoli, you were right about the pictures showing the measurements, I got all the info I needed and more, you're thread works like an amazing tutorial for this and is really helpful for things I wanted to know how to do with my armor as I get further into my build. (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Keep up the amazing work you do :D

Re: HALO Master Chief Costume Progress Thread

It's not just a blue suit that I'm making. I'm also making red, orange, cobalt blue, aqua (or teal), black, yellow, plurple, maroon, brown, and orange.
5042624557_5cf1e6c2ed_o.jpg

The light red helmet is not pictured.

Making one suit by Halloween=easy. Making the Red team and the Blue team and possibly a coupld more? Now that's a challenge.

Those are awesome helmets. The suits great too. Is that an EVA helmet on the far right?:eek

Dude, I live in Richmond. My dad and I are thinking about going to the Maker Fair next year. Are you planning on doing another exhibit next year?
