Medical Frigate part ID help

Here's two parts I need some help with. Their both about an inch or so in length.

Hello all I’m new to this site and this is my first post. I am also working on a Nebulon B in 1/270 scale. Do you think the part could be from a Venetian window blind roller mechanism?
 
The more and more I look at that ribbed part and compare it to laser oil toner cartridge images...the more I think that's what it might be. I started the ball rolling with trying to make a contact at IBM who might be helpful....

He's actually passed the note along to some of his buddies at IBM as well as his son, who, oddly enough, is apparently an EXPERT in telecom parts
