Lets see your Marty McFly costumes!

Did you make those Nike Mags from scratch or modded replicas? I'd love to see a breakdown of how you constructed them!

I used a basic (awful looking) shoe and built everything on to them. All the rubber, lacing and cuffs are made. I am hoping to put some progress shots up at some point soon. I am also looking to make a second attempt at the shoes as these were just an quick experiment and they only took me 4 days to make, so aren't as accurate as I would like.

Amazing! I'm cosplaying 2015 Marty in July when I meet Christopher Lloyd and it would be a tremendous help to see how you made yours!

Here is my Marty, been putting this together for some time. I tried to get it as accurate as possible, without breaking the bank, and with what was available online and in some second hand shops I have been visiting.

Parts so Far...
80s Guess 2 tone jacket (not accurate)
80s Guess Jeans (close a bit large)
Vintage Red puffer vest (did some mods around the collar)
Nike Tennis knock-off sneakers size 12 (close to bruins)
Checkered Shirt (long sleeve, but pattern is close to the Sha Safari one)
Black suspenders
Old style headphones
Red Velcro Wallet
My Replica Valterra Skateboard
Red JVC VHS-C GR40 (newer and smaller than the actual JVC GR-C1)
Aviator Sunglasses
Casio CA-53W Calculator watch
Red Undershirt (waiting on a Maroon one)
Guitar Pin (mine's actually a bass)
Art in Revolution button (Zazzle)
My own Boomerang pin interpretation
Various Paper props from here and disappearing photos

Still Need:
The Aiwa HS-P02 MK II Walkman

I managed to get a Valterra Gargoyle skateboard from the 80s that was in pretty bad shape. I replaced all the hardware, removed the rails, and made my own decals for the top and bottom that are pretty close to the Valterra Madrid version in the movie. The image was a combination of screenshots and other photos online of the style, reworked in Photoshop. I did it with photo paper and lamination, but I am not happy with it. Waiting on a decal shop that is printing me a vinyl decal of my image, that is laminated and self stick to replace it.

The sneakers are white leather Nike tennis shoes that are a little darker red (varsity red I think), and I am sure they are knock off Nikes. They are the closest I could find for under $50, and they fit.

These are the pins including my stab at the boomerang pin.

The jacket is not at all accurate but it is guess, vintage, and two tone. I am planning to get some paisley fabric for the sleeves. and I may turn the long sleeve shirt into a short sleeve one. The puffer vest is vintage and actually pretty close, but I had to adjust the collar to make it more like the movie version. Thanks for all the great resources, that helped me put this together as accurately as possible. Here are some action shots as well, any feedback or suggestions would be great.

PS: I am also working on putting together a Jennifer Parker for my wife, I have that 70% together, but with no screen accurate parts. She is not as picky as me, and just wanted the general look so we would go together at Halloween. I'll share some shots once that is complete next week.

Do you still have those Valterra graphics? I'm looking to recreate the board (vintage ones are prohibitively expensive) and I have a list of everything I need to make a decent facsimile. I just need the graphics. :)

I'm a long-time member who's been gone a while, and am just getting back into things here; and as a BTTF I was excited to see this thread! :) I have my own Marty costume (and am currently working on Marty McFly Jr). My costume was put together almost entirely from thrift store finds; the jean jacket isn't correct, but I added the paisley cuff lining, and intent to eventually add the two-tone detailing. I've also gotten hold of the correct Nike tennis shoes--they're not shown here, but I'll be getting more photos throughout this year. I'm glad to see the reference work everyone's done on the 2015 outfit, that's going to come in handy! MartyMcFlyA1.JPG fDSCN8715.jpgphoto 5.JPGMarty1.jpgMartyMcFlyB7.JPG

If anyone is looking for a good enough vest, be on the lookout for burnt orange Woolrich vests. They are basicaly the exact same design as the Class-5 vest except for the pockets. Other little details that are off are the snap button placements and some stitch lines. Other than that it's perfect.

They're relatively inexpensive. I got mine for $68 shipped. But I also bought another similar but not exact one for spare fabric to bring to a tailor and make accurate pockets.

Found this gem - a Guess Marciano 'Gasoline' jean jacket - on eBay BIN for only $20! Just arrived in the mail yesterday and not only does it fit great but it looks great with the rest of my pieces (I own the rereleased Shah Safari shirt, red & white Nike Bruins and other screen accurate pieces).

Obviously it's not screen accurate but for the style and the color scheme, it's the closest I've been able to find. Looks far better than a lot of the reproduction jackets. Now just to add the paisley lining for the rolled up sleeves!

I don't have my checkered shirt or Nike Bruins with me (They're back home), but I have the two main things lol The vest I am working to get accurate pockets made. Once that's done it will be almost spot on to the Class-5 vest. It has the right amount of puffs and it's the perfect color.

Here is an outfit I gathered for a new years party, in honor of 2015. It was the best I could do without breaking the bank. It's close enough to tell who I was dressing as. I will give the full rundown on my outfit. Starting from the bottom layer from head to toe.
I do not have red white Nike sneakers, or Bruins, or Purple Calvin Klein Underwear.

- Silver Aviator Sunglasses $20. They were the cheapest I could find that offered UV400 Protection.
- Light red short sleeved T-shirt I got for $7 at an Old Navy
- "The Old Navy Classic Shirt" long sleeved, but it is surprisingly close the to the Shah Safari Button down shirt. $19
- Black Elastic Suspenders $15. Thankfully, they can withstand tension and stay on pretty well.
- Wrangler Hero Denim Jacket in vintage blue. $40 Not even close to the Guess Marciano Two-toned Blue Jean Jacket, but it was the cheapest I could find, but it works.
- 1" Art in Revolution Pin. $3 I got it from Cafepress and I am quite happy with it.
- Fender Precision P Bass Guitar Pin $6. I managed to find a dealer who sold accurate pins for cheap, this pin is now sold out. But yeah, pretty much the only 100% accurate item on me.
- Print out picture of the boomerang pin. I couldn't find one anywhere so I just printed one out, cut it, and taped it to my jacket.
- St. John's Bay Garnet Red Puffer Vest $20. I got this on sale at JCPenny's really good find.
- Casio CA-53w Calculator Watch $16. Got this little gem off Amazon. I now use it as my everyday watch.
- Member's Mark Jeans in Stonewash $20. Got them at a Sam's Club. Closest color I could find with the right tightness and color.
- GPX AM/FM Cassette Player with Parts Express Headphones. My relatives were willing to give me their cassette player since they don't use it anymore. I found accurate headphones on Amazon for only $3.
- Grey Crew Socks $15. Got a pack of them.
- SAVE THE CLOCK TOWER Flyer. I just printed a picture of one.

So yeah, I managed to find a decent collection of clothing and accessories for a good price. I am saving up for more accurate props and clothing.
See you in the future.

Hi all. This is my mcfly costume that I put together just in time for comic con last week. Not 100% accurate but im happy with it. And Claudia Wells loved the shirt we had made for my son.
Thank you to all that posted pics and tips on where to get bits and bobs from and some of the finer details

I've never done a cosplay before but I decided I wanted to attend Tampa Bay Comic Con and meet Lea Thompson and BttF is my all time favorite movie EVER so I figured I'd do a female Marty McFly. I had to get creative since anything that was comparable was men's sizing and I'm a petite woman. I didn't go for 1000% screen accurate but I did try to be authentic as I could on limited skills, budget and with making it a ladies version. I'm happy with how it all came out.

lea-me-tbcc2015-01.jpeg

I even met a Doc Brown there! :D

marty-doc1.jpg

There were a few other Marty's there that day. I tried to take pics with everyone I could find and I posted them in my blog: http://giveneyestosee.com/blog/2015/08/female-marty-mcfly-cosplay-at-tampa-bay-comic-con-2015/ (In case you know anyone who was there or just want to see two martys together!)

I bought a vintage jacket and modified it to look more like Marty's. I even added the paisley cuffs. I sourced out a suitable women's version of the black/white windowpane shirt and even found a vintage pair of Nike shoes in my size. (I couldn't find any red/white boys 4.5 Bruins so I opted for a ladies 6.5 Nike Ace 83 pair which look very similar!)

shoes-flyer.jpg

Overall, for my first ever cosplay and doing it on a tight budget of thrift and ebay finds I was really proud of how it came out. I got a ton of compliments at Comic Con and multiple people asking me where I bought the jacket. Ha! Nope, I made it!! :lol One lady in line for Lea Thompson told me I was "legit" so that made my day. I know you guys are practically professionals here but I hope you can appreciate my humble project too.

Marty's clothes look simple. But it gets very complicated once you start to dive in. But despite that I shall continue forward. Here's what I got so far:
1. The hair. I did a sort of-ish sideparting like Michael wore
2. Levi's 511 Jeans. The Guess Jeans were nearly impossible to find, so I chose to go with Levi's 511 Jeans. Tight, but they could be tighter as they were like Skinny Jeans in the movie. So maybe an upgrade to the 510 Jeans.
3. Red Gildan shirt. Just a simple True Red shirt. Crew neck.
4. Nike Bruins...work in progress

Old post. Delete if not ok. Looking to part with my class 5 rust size medium vest or partial trade for Magnoli Marty Jean jacket
