Real Hovering Jedi Training Remote: FINISHED!

Wow! Incredible! So, is there a stronger base with a correct sized globe to use for a more authentic remote? I have never been interested in a training remote, but that display makes me want one!

There is a 6" version out there, which I believe is closer to the original size. I'm by no means an expert on this prop so maybe someone can chime in with an exact diameter.

I'm pretty sure that, using the same ideas I used for this one, that I could make a full sized replica with real model pieces or resin cast pieces.

You are not alone :thumbsup

Trooper Trent, why don't you make this conversion 'to order' ?

That definitely might be something I'd be interested in doing down the road. This was just a test to see if it could be done. I'll give it a more formal go when I can afford to buy the bigger version. If so, maybe I could work a deal with someone here that offers pieces and sell them as kits "pre-float-tested" :lol

Really, that is almost more impressive than having a manaquin with full getup and saber. Just having the saber next to a spinning hovering training remote???

That's about the most pimp lookin Luke ANH setup one could have!

Had to give it another look. Will absolutely be making a similar one myself in the future!

Are training remote kits hard to comeby? Or do you just by a plastic sphere, and add the greeblies, truck wheels, and whatever other kitbashed parts there are?

I'm not really sure to be honest. I was kind of hoping someone with the knowledge about kit availability would chime in here. I've created threads in the Junkyard wanting to buy a remote kit and got no response.
I believe there were only 2 or 3 models used, but I think they're pretty hard to come by. So castings is your best bet. No idea who offers them.

That's awesome! It'd be even better if you could convert one of the ones that doesn't have the magnet on top.

So cool that you were able to do this!

I don't know if you'd seen this thread but I thought I'd try to help out a bit as some time back I saved all of the reference photos I could from it.

That's an idea. I was thinking something kinda similar like the panels from the Tantive IV or maybe something out of the Millennium Falcon.

Since Obi Wan obviously did not bring it I always thought it was Han's and they were just using it so A Falcon charging station is what I would go with.

Man this thing is awesome.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been tracking remotes on Ebay for some time and that just went out the window.

You Rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When is the interest list starting in the JY ?????????

Not waiting, gonna have to order one. This is way cool

Probably gonna order this. It's 5.5 inches with a great base to work with. Nothin on top.

This is 6" but has a top thing

I'm wondering if one with a top piece is better as it can take more weight?????????? But the 5.5" one says it can take other objects up to 12 ounces. The 6" one mentions another magnet that holds the globe safely in place when it's not turned on???????

Man this is cool. It will be better than the Master Replicas and much less costly.

In the threads I referenced below(or above depending on your POV), they've said 6".

Be cautious of ordering that one. To be honest with you, I wouldn't go that route. The ones that float on top of the magnet are MUCH more unstable and require a much heaftier magnet.

Not only are you pushing against the weight of the ball, but all the weight is on top, which means it's top heavy and has to be MUCH MUCH more evenly balanced than if it was hanging.

Those are a lot harder to set and once you've started modifying it, if it isn't perfectly balanced all over, it will lean to one side, preventing you from setting it.

Trust me, I've done my homework. Played with these things for hours before deciding.

EDIT:

Oh yeah, the top hanging ones can also have more space between the globe and the mount. FYI. (magnets can pull from farther than they can push)

So this one will work???????

I was leaning toward it anyway because it looks more like the remote is in a charging station and the other one looks like it is just floating for no reason. Plus this is the correct size.

Something like that should be OK. I agree that you should not go for the 'magnet at the bottom' one. Simple physics. One with the magnet on top only has to deal with the weight of the ball. Magnet at the bottom has to deal with gravity if the ball is just a tiny bit too heavy & goes off its fulcrum / centre of gravity.
