Re: Truly Hovering Training Remote: Update! Progress Finally!

This is pretty exciting, I'm loving your determiniation! Keep going!

Re: Truly Hovering Training Remote: Update! Progress Finally!

I've done some work with these before, the size doesn't matter as long as the weight and magnet placement are the same.

I saw a floating Delorean on a website not to long ago that was made for Universal.

Dex

Edit: This is the one I was talking about. Pretty neat, I'd like to know what he did to the model to get it to work.

Today I finished adding the rest of the pieces.

She STILL Floats!. I even placed several sheets of paper on top of it to simulate extra weight from the paint. No Problems! This may actually happen!.

And it's finished! Not bad for a little weekend project.
Again, I'm fully aware that it's not screen accurate. I had to use very light weight materials in order for it to float. I'll make a formal video of it tomorrow, but for now, here's a few pics and a youtube clip of it in action.

Dude! That really turned out well. Great job.

Two questions, is the rotation a feature of the levitation unit, or do you just start it spinning before taping, and is it overly easy to accidentally knock it off of the levitation unit?

Re: Real Hovering Jedi Training Remote: Update! Progress Finally!

That's fantastic - I've been waiting for years to see someone pull this off and you've done it!

:thumbsup

The rotation is a feature of the unit. You can set it to rotate clockwise, counterclockwise, or off.
it's not too bad as far as knocking it off. If you bumped the table pretty hard it might come off, however, the unit will go into failsafe and suck the remote to the top to keep it from falling. There's also a lighter magnet on the base in the event of power loss, the ball will fall down but not go rolling off the table.

The trick is learning to set it. It came with a spacer that you place under the top magnet, then you lever it against the magnet with the ball beneath. I can usually get it on the first or second try.

Re: Real Hovering Jedi Training Remote: Update! Progress Finally!

awesome.
templates?
patterns?
etc?

LOL I wish!. I didnt even use so much as a ruler!.

I printed out some pics of JD_Pilot's MR remote from his collection site (thanks Jeff) for reference, then just went at it free hand.

It's pretty ghetto if you knew what I made it from, but it turned out okay.

Parts/materials include:

The butt end of Bic pens
Caps from the bottles of wedding bubbles
Chapstick caps
Adhesive back craft foam (lots of craft foam)
thumbtacks (metal and heavy but it didn't affect the magnet or weight)
