Hi Everyone!
I'm a student filmmaker currently working on my thesis film, it's called "The Nose" and in a key scene I require a wearable head sized nose mask. I've already sculpted and molded the mask once (Though I neglected to reinforce my plaster, resulting in disaster) Tomorrow I'll go through that process again and with any luck will have a mold fit for casting by tomorrow night.
Now for my question.
I want the final product to have a silicone skin, thick enough that it offers the correct look, but not thick enough that it has to offer support/go way over my budget. When casting with silicone is it possible to paint it on in layers? Will the layers stick together, or just peel apart and be a total waste. I haven't been able to measure the volume of the mold as my first attempt was destroyed, but I should be able to take some measurements tomorrow evening.
