Tie Fighter to Match Hasbro Hero X-Wing 1/18 Scale

Ok, so I have my Hasbro Hero - Open Wing Conversion done....now I need a Tie Fighter to go with it.

The Hasbro Hero X Wing is 1/18 scale, so I've looked for that to match and I'm using the TFA Tie, because it seems to have the attributes and may be close to the scale of my Hero, while I looked at lots of other versions/choices/sizes...it's the best fit for me.

The obvious issue is the wing size. I've investigated scale models, ratios...etc...but in the end I decided to do....best guess based on what I think looks right for me.

The multi directional wing mesh is just too hard for me scratch build wise and won't make a difference in my display, so I went with a standard mesh.

Re: Tie Fighter Time...!!

No silicone or resin in stock, so played around with the cheap cheat of caulking silicon and plaster.....very surprised how much detail was retained and cost about $5...instead of $80

Re: Tie Fighter Time...!!

Those casts look pretty solid. Not the kind of detail you'd expect from resin Warhammer range, but for a few bucks it looks great.
How are you going to make the central part of the TIE? I figure cutting a tennis ball might not be enough :D

Re: Tie Fighter Time...!!

A bit more work, not overly accurate, I just used what was lying around, but once cast and painted it will work for my display.

.

Cast enough centre details for the new wings. Saved money doing it with cheap resin and caulking silicon, it was interesting to try it out, not detial friendly though Once I add some greebiles in and around it will be fine.....if not I might use proper silicon.

And here we are 2 Years later....I forgot all about this project until I found it when we moved house, so.....

The cheap silicon casts just looks too ugly, even though no one would notice on the display, so I got some proper silicon and resin and off we go.....!!

Update time......got the centre rod in and made it oversize to decide how much distance between the pod and the inner side of the wings. Not really using any reference other than by my eye and what I think looks good, also the wing outer shape is more condensed width wise as I don't really like the wing width on the references I've looked into.

The more I work on it, the more I realise is a very difficult looking closed ship as the wings most always exclude the pod from view, a big opposite to the X Wing....maybe going to use some tap, hose parts for the pieces between the pod and the inner wing, just winging it with this build really.....:lol:
