Original Ray Gun

I was recently inspired by Greg Broadmore's art and especially Dr Grordbort's Infallible Aether Oscillators, so I decided to try and make my own.

The blue colour scheme gives it more of am atompunk vibe than the more industrial Dr Grordbort inventions, but I think it works.

The body of the gun.... Errr I mean oscillator....are some of those plastic disposable wine glasses, the bottoms stacked up nicely and make me think they were perfect for an atompunk Ray gun!

This was my first attempt and I am already working on the next; it'd be great to hear of what people think, as well as opinions on new designs or colour schemes!

"Good show old chaps!"

Very Nice! I love old ray guns and 50's toys. Here are some I designed. The big one is a jetpack.

Cool gun. Kri5. For some macabre reason, I want the blue bit to be transparent with a goldfish floating around in it :lol

Custom Ray Guns are my favorite thing to see on this forum, and this one turned out great! Can't wait to see the next one!

Thanks for all the great comments, already working on my next Ray Gun! Also looking as making a handheld sonic screwdriver-esque device. Here's a quick sketch of what I was thinking... Any ideas to make it better?

Happy to see this thread, I've been wanting to join a ray gun discussion since joining the RPF. I've been doing found parts ray guns for a couple of years now. These are two of what I consider my better efforts.
Wow they look awesome! Can I ask what you are using for the round disks? Or they large washers? Or did you machine them yourself?
I've been struggling to find the ideal prices to use; the best so far have been the stackable plastic wine glasses, but they aren't very strong

Thanks! On the first one, the Z-TD, those are just large washers, with smaller washers used for spacers. That gun does incorporate a large plastic wine goblet. The large rings on the X-1250 are (I’m guessing) stackable pieces from a kids building toy that I pulled out of a Goodwill Outlet bin. My workshop is limited (I only just added a tabletop sander and a bandsaw) so I pretty much have to rely on found parts for just about everything. Flat discs and rings are challenging and I‘m always on the lookout for those types of objects when scavenging.

This was my first attempt at a ray gun prop that I completed two years ago. I was inspired by a design by RPF user Darth Saber and wanted to see if I could do something similar with just found objects. It certainly was not even close to his amazing design but it got me up and running and taught me some basic crafting and painting skills. Everything was found objects except for the grip which I had to fashion out of wood.

Looks awesome! I didnt realise there'd be others as obsessed as I am about Ray Guns! Can't wait to see what else people have come up with

Alright, i'LL be the big jerk face.
There are some aspects of the gun that I like and some that I really don't care for.
The "barrel" and the overall silhouette certainly has the look. I think the blue paint scheme really looks out of place. The little springy thing hanging off the back just looks like a safety hazard! And the little circles on the handle just feels like an afterthought to me.
But again, the overall vibe is very retro Ray-gun.

Hey that's cool, any feedback is good in my book. The coil out the back and the blue was to try and go for more of a cartoon Ray gun vibe, which I know isn't for everyone; for my next attempt I'm going for a more realistic feel. Thanks for the comments!
