Ralph McQuarrie Luke Skywalker (Deak Starkiller) concept art costume research thread

Alright, so Ralph McQuarrie's Luke Skywalker concept art is one of my all time favorite costumes, and I will eventually build one (though unfortunantly I wont be able to for a while thanks to other projects I have to pay for first). In any case, I hope this will start some fun conversations and help for anyone looking for info or is building this costume (such as me). Let me start by showing some pics I found and questions I have.

What color are his sleeves supposed to be? In the actual drawing I find it unclear, in one of the figures its purple, in another it"s blue. What about the gloves? In the drawing it's the same color like his sleeve. Any information, figure picture, costume picture about this would be apreciated. Questions are welcome too.

The painting is hard to determine color, but it looks dark blue, but he's in shadow. Also looks like he's wearing some sort of armor on his arms, and that's the tan color. The bust and figures appear purple but don't have any armor, so I'd go with the purple. Gloves are a rusty, brownish red in the figures, tan in the painting (matching the armor) Some weathered leather driving gloves would fit the bill.

The pose and lighting of the McQuarrie painting make Deak a bit muddy. If I were to try to recreate the costume, I'd lean toward the figures, as you can get a lot more details from those. If this would be for a Rebel Legion costume, pretty sure they need multiple sources to corroborate the CRL.


I wonder how many people would wonder why Winter Soldier has a light saber.

I found a brighter pic. In this one you van see he has some sort of silver orange marking on his shoulder bell. I also found some other animated pic where he also has so,e sort of ,arming on his shoulder armor as well.

His boots are brown. I assume his pants should be some kind of dirt orange with some bright orange stripes according to the figure. What material?

The boots would probably be German riding boots, I cant find any plain brown ones tho.
