Overwatch: Reaper costume

Hey all

Been working on this guy for a while.... I’ve been obsessed with Overwatch since before it’s release. And likewise, the character that I immediately fell in love with was reaper. I began working on him early last year, gathering pieces and sanding, and now It’s crunch time to get him finished.
All the pieces have been 3D printed. I’m still waiting on the thighs from Hydroid props and the guns from Habiteer workshop, but let’s start with everything else.
Here’s everything I originally had some smaller guns from habiteer workshop but they were too small for my frame and costume.

This was my starting point... the armor and gauntlets were from Hydroid props, the greaves were from Habiteer workshop, and the mask was from MMPR props. Since then, I’ve made a lot of progress

I still have to create the shotgun shells and holsters to stick on the big belt.
The mask still needs some stains... my goal is to get it looking like these pics

The jacket is being created by a friend of mine, which I will then airbrush to add details and shadows.

The armor is all real carbon fiber and still needs to be smoothed.... I plan to add some Orange LEDs to the eyes and set up two miniature fog machines as well to pour out of the eyes.... will update when I can [emoji1360]

Looking good. How did you smooth out the 3D printed parts? They go from angular to super smooth!

Thanks!
Too many hours and a can of bondo [emoji23]

But seriously, it was layered with fiberglass, sanded, bondo, sanded, more fiberglass, sanded, and then I just kept piling on bondo and sanding.

Extremely small update... one of the shotgun shells is ALMOST done... it’s HUGE! But it’s for a big shotgun.
I still have to add a detail to the top and stuff/detail the bottom. The top is a cold cast piece that I sculpted while the bottom was a pvc tube that I cut and painted.

Got some lights installed!!! Happy with the outcome but still working on fog. I have no idea how to upload a video on here so for now, here’s screenshots of a video I took.

Spine armor is all finished up [emoji1360] 3D print that I received from Etsy about a year ago, sanded, and then painted.

Nice work. Your LEDs look awesome! Trying to get mine to the right red :/. At least I have about 30 to practice on. (I bought cool white and am trying to get enough paint on the inside of the bulbs that they look red, but not so much that the light is too dim.

I’ll be honest, getting them to look good. Because there’s a stretch fabric over it, it’s hard to be able to get them to glow evenly. I ended up putting some hot glue on the tips to defuse the light a bit and make it more even, but it still needs a bit of straightening out. The whole thing sits about 3 inches off my face so I can see, but it’s actually pretty comfortable!

Hmm, fabric is a good idea. wrapped around the outside of the bulb? Might have to give it a try.

No I used a stretch fabric for the eyes of my reaper hahaha. That’s the “black” part. The. There’s a raw red LED behind it with hot glue on the end.

Ahhhh, ok. I've got the black fabric for my eyes too :) my LEDs are little self contained twist on ones. I was going to attach a wire to them and poke the bulb through the fabric, cause they need to sit in the middle. At least there's like 2-3 inches in front of my face in the helmet.

That should work super well... I’m very excited to see it.

I'll post some pics on my build thread once I get it done. I can message you to let you know if you want?

Yes, please do, id love to see the outcome. It’s not something I can do for this costume because reaper’s eyes obviously don’t glow all the time so I want the option to shut them off and not be noticeable, but I do have a plague doctor reaper mask I’m working on that the eyes do constantly glow, so if your idea works for you, I may try it for that one.

Alright, will do. Do you have a switch inside the mask or something?

This is looking fantastic. I was not too excited when I saw the 3d printed parts, but it turned out great, you did a really good paint job

That’s correct, just a super small switch that I can turn on or off!

Thank you so much! Yes, the main armor and gauntlets were all done from my friend Hydroid props and they were very angular and had tons of polygons in them because they were extracted game files, I believe. It took a lot of work to get it to where you couldn’t see any of the polygons, but it’s paid off in the end :)
