James Gunn fired from GOTG 3

I suspect he was fired for being an idiot who didn’t delete his old tasteless and offensive tweets once he became successful. That kind of stupidity is pretty uncommon.

P.S. Good example of why I’m not on Twitter, and don’t pay attention. Moronic information channel for idiots.

Apparently a guy he was corresponding with about some video he (Gunn) had linked to, is now serving time for possessing child porn. So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of investigation.

I hear his college roommate's best friend's ex-girlfriend's uncle's childhood next door neighbor also did something questionable.

******, people... Gunn "corresponded" with almost anyone who tweeted at him or tagged him on Facebook. Hell, he's directly responded to MY comments on Facebook.

If hes "grown" so much as a person why does he wait to delete 10.000 plus tweets in a day just as this news breaks and not before as a demonstration of his supposed growth? I dont see growth, just blind panic. Jumping on the toxic Star Wars fans bandwagon has done him no favours either. Glass houses anyone?
Did he delete all of his 10,000 tweets or were they 10,000 specific tweets? Either way that's a lot of tweeting.

Well over 10,000 deleted on 20th July

If Gunn was in the same headspace today, Disney would never have given him GOTG.

Ok...here's the part that bugs me.

GOTG was 2014. Work had to have begun with him being hired in 2012 at the latest. They had to have been looking at him around 2011.

These tweets were '09 and '10. Disney owned properties aren't just going to say 'this guy did a a good move last year, lets hire him' and that be the extent of their look in to him. They'd have looked into him enough to know what he did well prior to '09. I find it hard to believe they'd have missed 100's of jokes like this and/or simply never got wind of it. Especially considering he did a public apology of it in 2012. No way the execs missed that. So they KNEW and hired him anyhow.

With that volume of outrageous posts, they either knew and didn't care then or they did a **** poor job of looking in to him.

The fact that it's a politically motivated attack as well is vomit inducing as well. It's pretty easy to do this to someone when you have zero fear/chance of losing your job if you were guilty of the same thing. It doesn't excuse what he did, but it's still a bad thing.

I've made plenty of jokes about murder in my life. I've even fantasized about killing some a**holes that made my life difficult. (Remember being a teenager?)

Should all this make me a suspect? Get me fired? Put me on a permanent watch list? Murder is considered a worse crime than pedophilia.

The difference is that it's socially acceptable to joke and fantasize about murder.

This director made a ton of bad taste comments. But bad taste is not a crime.

If you threaten or talk about killing someone on social media, don't be surprised if law enforcement decides to pay you a visit. At least they better. People willing to say such things for the whole world to see, are definitely crying for help or in need of being investigated at the least.

If the old jokes were racist, or about beating women, I don't think people would have mixed feelings about his firing, no matter how long ago it was. But since he only made jokes about ******* little kids, and rape, he deserves another chance....

Seriously, I was a James Gunn champion, and couldn't believe when he was hired by Marvel, and he did great work. However, this is just something Disney can't look past.

Has any petition in the history of change.org ever actually changed anything? I'm guessing no.

Seems they do, though in some of these cases I'm guessing the petitions were only part of change taking place. In any case, I stopped at 10 pages, unsure how many there are on there...

In this case, I don't see any chance that Disney backtracks. They'd have the same bad publicity issue they just got rid of.

I'm not defending him, but, Disney/Marvel DID look past it then. He was at the very least, hired in early 2012, if not in 2011. An article came out about this in 2012. If they didn't know before the first GOTG came out, it's because they willfully ignored it.

So which was it? Complete incompetence? or accepting his explanation back then? As the article stated, the comments were out there in 2012 and there was no massive issue made of it, so, why now? I get the climate has changed, but you can't punish people today for they did in 2009, when it was just as public in 2009 and 2012 and no one made much of a peep.

I don't know the guy for anything. I have no stake in this. I just have an issue with the way it's playing out because you'll never convince me they were incompetent to the point of not knowing about it in 2012 or earlier.

Just smacks more of bowing to public pressure, of which i haven't actually seen a group really clamoring for him to fired - and to be fair, i haven't really looked. But you'd think there'd be numerous ones by now with high(ish) profile articles on it.

Have`nt checked this morning but there was barely if any news of this in the mainstream media at all, I only found out about it through a You Tube channel and then went looking for more information but couldnt find very much so I doubt Disney were bowing to any public pressure as there wasnt any when they sacked him. People are acting shocked Disney didnt vet his social media before they hired him but isnt it obvious that Disney has no idea what goes on in that cesspool. Until yesterday that is.
