Thoughts about the movie Saturn 3? anyoneold enough to see it in the theatre?

I did see it at the time but it suffered by the high quality similar works from around that same period. I do remember that the sets were amazing though. Will have to hunt down the Blu Ray if there is one. Who could forget Farrah Fawcett though.

I was kid when it it cam out, far too young to see it in the theater, but watched it at a friends house when it was on HBO. I remember it creeping me out, but when you under 10, it's easy to get creeped out. I think it was mostly the creepy music from Elmer Bernstein. Though even as a kid, I could recognize its cheapness. Perticurly the odd voice dubbing over Harvy Keitel, and the unimpressive SPFX, even for the day. It did have impressive sets. There is a a blu-Ray from Scream Factory, but I'm not sure if it's still availed.. I enjoy it for what it is to this day. Not great, but had some interesting ideas but just didn't have the budget to pull it off.

The dvd release was edited down . It took all the cool robot parts out !!

The dog , the dudes severed head . I'm sure a ton o stuff I can't remember . I wonder if the blu ray is the original or the edited version ? Anyone know ?
it would be worth a purchase to me to finally see the o.g. Movie again .

Ii sure creeped me out.

I think it had to be one of my first R rated movies. I was 10 and saw it in the theater.

I loved sci-fi and my Grandfather would take me to see movies fairly often

I guess he never noticed the R rating

I remember wanting to see it since it had a robot and was in space.

It starts out with a murder, then the dog squishing scene. which gave me nightmares , then the softcore porn scenes fueled by drugs (pills)

It was a far cry from Star Trek and the first movie that both terrified me, and introduced me to "adult situations" :lol

I often thought about seeing it again, but decided not to since it probably would never live up to that first viewing through a 10 years olds eyes

I figured it would be disappointing. Doubly so if they edited out all that stuff

I wasn't able to see it sat the theatre, but caught it in the 80's or early 90's on cable, I think. It sounds like I caught the edited version, but even then I was still pretty taken with the movie from both the eerie vibe and "What the hell is going on?!?" standpoint. And I remember being obsessed with the robot for a time. And wasn't there a really anxiety-inducing sound with the score towards the end, similar to Alien? Maybe I'm just thinking of the sound when the robot falls into that acid or whatever it was.

There's a video on YouTube that highlights the many production problems involved with this movie. Incredibly problem-riddled film.

You may be thinking of the television version. When it was broadcast on television, they added some cut scenes (much like Star Trek: The motion picture) but they were never in the theatrical release. The one on Bluray is the theatrical release, but it does have the television scenes as a stand alone extra.

I actually enjoyed the movie, Loved Hector the robot.
I have been looking for the original robot for years,
It turned up at Blackpool in the 80's at the entrance of a dark roller coaster ride, Then it vanished, Probably ended up in a skip after they updated the ride :(

Found a video on youtube showing Hector (filmed with a potato) - first 20 seconds

I remember that it was an ambitious, thinking man's sci-fi film, but didn't do well in release. Marketing probably had something to do with it. I might still have the CINEFANTASTIQUE issue with an article on it, and/or a review.

I think this is one of those movies that could do with a remake, if done in the right tone.

The core story is a decent enough storyline

It's funny I contacted ITC (right holders) about 6 months before the Blu-Ray was announced and their response was they had no plans to license it for a Blu-Ray release.
I was excited to hear otherwise just a short time later.

I love this movie for childhood nostalgia. It's a great transfer btw! very sharp clean picture. All the gore is included.
I had not remembered the hand chopping scene before.

Anyway, yes do get it on Blu-Ray if your a fan. Very worth it.

It cracks me up that at the beginning they are clearly trying to impress the audience with this grand orchestra music and giant ship ala star wars,
but then you see it's deflector dish sagging on the sides. They should have filmed the model upside down.

edit: I just remembered, a few months back that Amazon prime video has the HD movie available to watch, it looks exactly like the Blu-Ray quality wise.

Last I heard which was awhile ago, allegedly he was on display at the London bridge museum.

This is EXACTLY my experience with thr movie as well. I remember avoiding it for ever recalling it to be way scarier than it was. Seeing it again in collehe I blew it off as hokey and slow, I'd probably appreciate it more, now. ESPECIALLY since Martin Amis and John Barry write it!?

The set up reminds me of a few different TNG episodes, wonder if it was a favorite of somebody on staff.

I agree that with modern production value it's acdecent concept for a remake. I love scifi horror films and we don't get enough of them.
