STAR WARS- A Calvin and Hobbes Story...

Hey, everybody! I haven't posted on therpf in a while. But I wanted to share my latest project with everyone. I have already made a lot of progress and am very close to molding everything. I will start at the beginning, and the beginning is this picture of Calvin and Hobbes as Han and Chewie on the Falcon:

I absolutely love these mash-ups artists do, and I decided this would make a really cool sculpture for my brother's birthday. This is an old image and I have not been able to find the original artist, so if anyone knows who first came up with this, please give them a shout out for credit. It is awesome!

OK! So I began with the falcon, using cintra to build up a structure and shell for the basic shape of the falcon.

...And then I began sculpting out Calvin and Hobbes:

And then I decided to personalize the sculpture by adding a custom base of my own design. I thought it would be really cool to make a base that looked like the giant asteroid from ESB... and, almost as an afterthought, I realized I needed to add the giant space worm that tried to eat them, cause YEAH! LOL!

You can see some of the detail I added to the falcon in the image above. I thought the engine flare would add some energy to the sculpture. I'm planning to make the space worm a little bit bigger...

All that's left now are the arms and legs and a few more details to help pull it all together. I have been filling and sanding and priming to work on getting everything just right and ready to mold. Here are just a few more pics to show my most recent work. You'll see I made the DL-44 and Bowcaster as well as added clothing to Calvin and I have begun adding the "wookie fur" to Hobbes to make everything truer to the concept photo. As I always say, "It's all in the details."

Questions and comments are always welcome. As always, thank-you or looking! :D I will post more updates soon.

Hey guys! Sorry for the delay on updates. This is a miscellaneous project and I have been busy with work. I have made some progress, though.

I added more putty to the falcon so I can square it up a bit more, but no pics for now. boring stuff, anyway

Here is some work I finished on Calvin. Once I finish his arms he'll be ready for the mold:

And here is some minor work I was able to finish on Hobbes. I cut off the legs to prevent undercuts when I mold him. I'll be keying him tomorrow and finishing up his arms and attaching his satchel and he'll be ready for the mold.:

Last, but not least, I decided to add some girth to the space worm. He was a little puny for my liking. Now he seems a lot more imposing. :)

So there it is. Thank-you for looking! Any questions or comments are welcome. I will have some pics of the finished sculpture very soon. And I will post some pics of the molding process as well. It'll be the first time I have made a silicon mold, so should be interesting. I am sure I will have some nervous questions to ask. LOL

I am REALLy embarrassed! I can't believe I haven't updated this thread since July!!! So, then, I am proud to present to you the rest of the story, with an epic conclusion. But without the story, cause I can't find any of the progress pics I took since July. Bummer! I will post them later if anyone expresses any interest in seeing them. But in the meantime, here is the finished sculpture. Everything you see casted from the original sculptures in resin, then painted and sealed and assembled. This is my first GK, the fist time I have made a silicon mold and the first time I have ever used 2 part resin. I am quite proud of the results. Thank-you for looking!

PS- I know some of you are thinking, "This has to be the first time he has finished something, too!") LMAO!!! Well, I have a bad record, yes, but I am turning a new leaf! Enjoy!

And here is the image I used for reference, with the artist's permission, of course. His name is Chris Wahl, and he is a wonderful artist. :)
