Trying to consolidate my projects to single threads. So, I reckon this will be my blaster thread. Been working slowly but surely on my Bespin Security Guard blaster, trying to collect all the known parts, and trying to get the unknown parts modeled and printed.

Last night I scratch made a few parts from styrene, and I hope to mold them at some point.

Anyway, here's where I'm at right now!

I'll keep updating as I progress.

Decided to try and scratch build the plate with the four nubs! More styrene and some itty bitty rare Earth magnets.

Also, I realize some details from the Nemrod have been lost, like the "oil" text near the back. This particular Nemrod was pretty beat-up, and in filling with putty and sanding, all that cleaning up, some of the details were sanded away. It's a bummer, but it is what it is.

It was pointed out that the little dome over the front right screw, at the missile detail area isn't there. I do realize this. In some replicas I've seen it very well defined, and in many reference photos I've got it's much more subtle. I haven't decided whether to leave mine as-is, or to try and add that subtle dome. But, the parts haven't been permanently affixed to the body yet, so I may still add it.

Also, the barrel tip was a quick test on my little lathe, so it will eventually be replaced with something more accurate, with the proper number of fins, and the diameter needs to be slightly larger.

And at the back of the blaster, I need to slightly shorten and reshape the part that transitions into the conical V8 part.

So there are lots of little things I need to do, and all my scratch built parts will likely eventually be replaced by more accurate 3D printed parts.

And here I've finally shortened the aluminum part at the back, between the end of the Nemrod and the conical V8 part. Added a little color, and just playing around with some light weathering.

I've really gotta find myself some gears, or at least something to stand in for them for the time being!

I see you already scratchbuilt the plate with the four knobs...no need to send you mine then.

WELL DONE!!!

Hi :)

nice project!!! i am also making mine

the part next the "coffe mixer" come from the F4E Revell Phantom 2 too as the bomb ;)

what kind of calculator button have you used? it look very nice.

Your craft part look fantastic, espacially the part next the "T" marquage.

I had never see the part next the revell v8 part, photo from an original blaster?
And the part on the top of the blaster are an interpretation? i no see hole on the orginal

I do have the Phantom kit, and know about that upper side detail, I just haven't added it yet. I'm hoping to mold that part.

Some of my scratch built parts are slightly idealized, for sure. Different photos I've seen show the various greeblies in different states of breakage, so I've made my parts to look as if they're complete.

One weird thing is that the rear sight looks different in different reference photos. The front of it looks like a simple box in some, and has the little extra details in others. Since I think it's the same unknown part used all over the blaster, just cut up in different ways, I went with the more detailed front area.

The calculator button is from an Exactra, like the original.

I finally decided to add the little screw cover bump next to the "missile". I may try to soften the edges a little, but I like how it turned out!

So I've done some more work on this guy.

I made some molds of the parts I built, along with the F4 Phantom front landing gear door and a couple V8 parts.

I've been struggling trying to figure out the proper main color. In some photos it looks like a dark metallic, and in others it's brighter. Right now I've got a coat of matte nickel on mine and I've used some 1200 grit and some 3600 grit to get it real shiny.

The original looks like it's got a gloss clear coat over the base color, but I'm gonna hold off on that for now until I'm ready to finish the whole blaster.

One thing I couldn't resist this time was peeling off the grip and trigger masks. I'm really trying to figure out this main color, so I kinda had to see the whole thing unmasked.

I need to cut the barrel shorter (almost an inch), and still have to try making a new barrel tip.

If anyone knows the exact proper paint color for this blaster please speak up! Thanks!

Hahaha, thanks! There's still more to do, like the coffee stirrer and the gears and barrel tip, but it's getting there.

So I made another barrel tip, and while it's much better than my first attempt, it's still looking a little off to me.

I don't know what it is, it looks a little too short maybe? I think I should make the fins a little slimmer, for sure. Like, all of them the same thickness as the little one on the very tip.

Anybody have any suggestions? Has anyone scaled this thing in reference photos? Maybe my measurements are off. I'd love to know what other folks have come up with.

My OAL is 32mm, and largest OD is 25mm.

I chucked the barrel tip back up in the lathe and made the "fins" a little thinner.

I think it looks better, but I'm gonna make another one. I think it should be a little longer, with a touch more space between the fins, and I think I'll scale the whole thing up just a bit.

I also cut the barrel and outer barrel sleeve shorter. I think it's finally starting to look like it should in that area.

I've added a couple pics of real-deal barrel tips at the bottom, for comparison.

I have this theory that the flash hider is threaded and they put a T nut over the V8 cap at the back. That extra bit of threaded rod might be leftover from running a threaded rod through the whole thing...

Hmm, could be, who knows?

I do have a short threaded rod in the back there, still need to machine a proper end cap washer to replace my current slightly undersized washer.

I did some fun weathering to the blaster today. Just playing around with what I want the thing to look like. I'm kinda liking this weathered look. Added a grimy brown wash and a touch of black. Did some "scratches" here and there with a slightly different silvery color and sanded or scraped down to the grey primer coat in a couple places.

I also added circles to the part next to the safety at the back on the right side, and removed the paint from the bomb half. I kinda like it green.

Pics!

WOW your washes and weathering could easily fool me for it being the real thing.

That flash hider is really nice (I've been looking at pulleys) the brown wash on it makes it look like tarnished metal
