Dann's Blaster Projects - (Latest) FM ANH Hero Project from Nov 2022

Okay, so the printed parts came in from Shapeways! Thanks to Jodo Kast (CSB Props) for modeling them! Here's a link to his Shapeways shop. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/csbprops?section=&sort=newest
The models for the gears, barrel tip and stirrers can be found in the "B Guard" section.

I find his take on the barrel tip interesting, but I think I prefer mine. I absolutely love the stirrers and the gears! The stirrers even have the circular injection molding marks.

So I'm really close to done with this blaster. It never seemed like one of the cooler ones from the movies, but it's really grown on me and it feels great in the hand. It's been a fun project for sure!

excellent job on the gears! im impressed.

There are a lot of options of materials. does anyone have experience with professional plastic vs, versatile vs. smooth detail?

Thanks man! I think I got white ultra detail or something.

EDIT: Scratch that, I got the white "smooth". It was the cheapest option. Money's been really tight lately otherwise I would've sprung for the super duper ultra detail.

Finally got my 3D printer kit all built up and running, after a year of procrastinating!

Printed out a Biker Scout blaster from a model I found on Thingiverse, I think.

I've actually done more filling and sanding and painting since these pics were taken last Thursday. I've also since shaved off the printed transistor and added a real vintage one. I'll post more tomorrow!

Thanks y'all! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, I got rid of most of the evidence of the seam lines, and layer lines. The body was printed in two halves, and the scope and ring (the scope ring polished up real nice!) were separate pieces as well as the handguard.

I'm also working on a Zam Wesell blaster pistol. Not a huge fan of the prequel props, but I really like a few of them. I may eventually turn a barrel out of aluminum, but the printed one is looking decent for now. Still have some sanding and obviously more painting to do on this one, and those little screws are just place holders...

Oh shoot, I forgot to mention, the radial engine part is just for fun, it was left over from cutting out my Han hero grille and I thought it'd look just the part. I probably won't leave it, but at the moment I felt like it needed to be there. Heh.

Anyway, I also took some new pics of the Relby K-23. I need to put some more paint on the gears and stirrers, and I think I'll paint the stirrer holes black (there's at least one reference photo that shows this), but like I said before, this guy's basically done. I just had to get some daylight shots of it.

And I've got some leftover castings of the parts I made, if anyone's in need. I'll need to get more resin to make more, though. I'm not a pro at molding/casting, so air bubbles will need filling, which I don't mind doing, if you'd like..

I just modeled my first "THING" on Thingiverse! The Relby K-23 Flash Hider.

Here's another version, I think it's a little bit better accuracy-wise. Slightly longer, a little more spacing between the fins. Also included a broken-down version of the .stl for easier printing.

EDIT: Reworked it a bit, deleted the previous versions, less confusion that way...

I've got a couple little updates for my blaster thread.

I got lucky and found a Compac Super scope(4x), and I printed out a ROTJ DL-44!

I need to swap some of the screws (as well as add some in the piston halves and the underside of the flash hider) on the ROTJ blaster, get a more accurate scope ring and do the milling detail on the left side, but she's close enough to show off, I think.

And last night, I turned down the front bell on the Compac.

Thanks!

Here's a few more pics, I finished the front bezel on the Compac (basically painted black and added a lens), and I'm also working on an all-3D-printed Greedo Killer. The 3D printed scope has real lenses, and I was able to use parts from the front bell of the real scope in the rear bell section of the printed one.

Now hopefully someday I'll find another MGC to do my all metal GK.

Almost done with the 3D printed Greedo Killer.

Years ago I had a resin cast kit version of this blaster that I built, but years ago, I also sold it off.

I had forgotten just how honkin' huge this sucker really is! One thing I was never a fan of was how far down the barrel of the MGC the Grease Gun flash hider was attached. It just makes the barrel look so pencil thin and flimsy to me. I remember sliding back the flash hider on my resin version closer to the chamber, so I did that with this one as well. It's not that obvious at first glance, but it looks better to my eye.

Anyway, the scope saddle needs screws, the grips could use another round of putty and sanding and I'm not sure I'll leave the hammer and bolt so "in-the-white" silvery. Also not completely satisfied with the color of the flash hider. I think it could be a little lighter grey and more of a flat finish.

Still, like the ROTJ blaster a few posts up, it's close enough to show off! The only parts that aren't printed are the scope rings, lenses and all the screws, with the exception of the grip screw (which is printed and facing the wrong direction).

I'm pretty darn happy with this (especially as a 3D print), but I'm itching to do a metal one!

"Milled" out the side details in my 3D printed ROTJ blaster last night. Used a cheap XY table on my drill press and eye-balled the whole thing.

Also, my kitty, Tina (Christina) sometimes hangs out in the "shop" room while I'm working on stuff. I'm really surprised the noise of the lathe and other tools don't bother her. She's a pretty skittish girl. She absolutely hates the air compressor, though!

Been modeling the gears and the coffee stirrer. The ones JodoKast made are great, I just wanted to try them myself now that I've got my own printer.
