Luke ROTJ Buckle Paint & Weathering Advice

Hey hive mind.

I'm getting ready to paint my Luke ROTJ buckle. I wanted the finish to be as close as possible to the picture, but I can't decide: spray paint or acrylic? Matte, satin or gloss?

These are the 2 pictures I'm basing it on. (Excuse the imgur links. I'm having trouble uploading pictures to the rpf)

It's a steel buckle that I'll paint and then weather. This is what it looks like now.
