Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm (after 2021)?

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

So now its a bad thing to make a little profit out of something that a large amount of people are interested in, what a joke. Do you even watch any of these channels or just make assumptions about their content? We have seen how foolish it can be to comment on the content of the product without even watching the video recently.

Who is complaining about making money? Not me. I simply pointed out that its disingenuous to keep harping on that D&K doesn't care about SW and are all about "making money "when the primary reason many of those channels promote an anti Disney/Lucasfilm/Kennedy agenda is to do exactly that.

And yes ,unfortunately I spent a couple of weeks extensively researching threads, the subscriber numbers for certain youtube channels ,their links (and they are all starting to complain about "stealing" the same new content from eachother because that affects their hit rates) who posted in the comments sections (often, like the threads here, and for example you inparticular ,the same people multiple times in different channels).

And I also looked outside at the SJW community for attacking SW fans and other areas of entertainment and found, no spoilers here, that its exactly the same tactic employed by everyone everywhere. They select a quote, a misquote, a casual comment, an opinion ,a news item ,a video clip, a downright lie, you just name it and promote it as evidence that that community is being actively vilified and discriminated unfairly against , be that the case or not.

Its all in order to get the hits rolling in to keep earning money from advertising streams, but to do it successfully and maintain earnings they MUST KEEP pushing their agendas. They are utterly trapped by their own "political" bias because the moment they do anything that causes their core supporters to disagree with them and unsubscribe, the hits drop off (and so does all that handy extra dosh they so love).

So the biggest single issue for any customer/media sensitive company is how to deal with it and be seen to be doing it fairly that also disproves the agenda topics.

So far the best tactic I have seen is employed has been the way Marvel have been making use of their comic division. They've allowed " SJWs" to produce new characters and stories in line with their own expectations and the often stated belief that a large market existed for this within the comic industry if only they were given a chance, even allowing some of the old established characters mythologies to be used by gender reversing them.

And guess what.

Those titles have bombed, Marvel comic sales have declined and the bulk of these lines have now been cancelled, very much to the annoyance of those that produced them, who have then predictably reacted by saying they were not given a fair chance to build the readership.
But the real truth is they failed ,and Marvel have simply proved that ( surprise, surprise) there simply aren't the numbers of people who read comics who were at all interested or liked what was written (many titles could barely scrape over a thousand per release) and they certainly didn't create any massive new readership, because (again surrpise, surprise) it doesn't actually exist.

And in that sense TLJ proved to me, and hopefully Disney and Lucasfilm that its dangerous and rather self destructive to take an established set of heros and villians and destroy their mythologies with their core fan base. Its a needlesly wasteful exercise that cost profit. And ,whats worse , they have so far not well used that loss to create a new set of characters popular enough to replace them in that emotional void left to many in the fandom.

Marvel absolutely understand this and are trying to manage this transition with great care and alot of foresight. "Infinity War" is a plank they have just willingly walked off to to plunge headfirst into the potentially very dangerous ocean of fandom and general audience expectation. If they get it wrong there is going to be hell to pay, but I believe (no lets be honest here I'm praying daily) that they will get it right absolutely right.

For the record I liked "Solo" I've watched it twice, it was very good, if not totally great. Personally I have been more interested in all the claims about why its performed so below expectations and wanted to cut through alot of the disinformation thats claimed about it and have done so to my satisfaction at least (go read the posts).

Within TLJ I'm sorry that they've made the mistakes they have, but it still works well for some and there are other quality movies and TV series I actually enjoy more than SW ,so I'm over my disappointment.

Thats the problem for D,L&KK to solve, they've got so much competition these days, so many critics to please . If they can't be bothered to listen to whats being said then thats their choice, but then it is becoming harder to pull anything meaningful out of all this endless ,often mindlessly repeatitive commentary.

I'm going to take a longish break from it all. I've done it before and felt better for it . Reading and listening to alot of the rubbish thats out there has left me with a sense that some people could do with some time in solitary confinement but as regarding RPFers and this forum its bloody head and shoulders above 90% of the utter garbage thats out there ,believe me.

So perhaps thats why Kathleen Kennedy is wise enough not to have bothered responding to all the constant jibes about being silent, its far easier to ignore them and get on with her work.

After all absolutely none of us have to watch these films if we don't want to and ultimately ,if thats the case, I'm sorry that she and Lucasfilm have made just two out of four new SW films I quite like. If she gets me to like just one then she at the very least will have equalled George Lucas.

I was talking about visual design.

But since you brought this up. How about neither Luke? One is a Dark Side dabbling lightsaber happy killer. And the other is broken down old man, trying to get rid of a young girl. Who's trying to get him to do something he doesn't want to.

On the other hand, this is my Luke. Jedi who only uses a lightsaber when absolutely necessary. Who doesn't use the Force for attack, but for knowledge and defense.

I’m sorry, I don’t really smell what you are cooking. Are you saying you believe Luke at the beginning of return of the Jedi and the last Jedi is ... bad?

But it at the end of each film is good?

Yep.

In ROTJ Luke is using Force Choke, wearing black, and seems to enjoying himself a bit to much he chops his way through Jabba's henchmen. Luke's sways over to the Dark Side multiple times in ROTJ

In TLJ Luke has talked himself into believing that galaxy is better of without him and the JedI. This stems from the fact that he failed to teach his nephew and his students, leading some to turn to the Dark Side. And also from the fact that he gives into the temptation of the Dark Side and contemplates killing his nephew. However by not owing up to his mistakes, not confronting his failures, is how he truly failed. This why Snoke says, "Dark Side rises and Light to meet it. I assumed it would be Skywalker" And also why Yoda tells him, that "The greatest teacher failure is".

I fear saying things like this in these threads... cuz I hate notifications of arguments...

But I still say, long run, this film will be appreciated more.

Well... not the casino planet stuff...

I never looked at Luke in ROTJ that way, very interesting take.

In ROTJ Luke’s fighting for his life and those of his friends in the scenes you’re referring to - as a more accomplished Force user .
How’s that showing him ‘ swaying ‘ over to the dark side ? Because he’s got a smile on his face at times ?
Perhaps that’s him believing with relief that they ‘ the good guys ‘ may actually succeed in escaping torturous deaths at the hands of career criminals ?

As for how he behaved in TLJ ... that’s all on Rian ‘ subversive ‘ Johnson’s take on the character . One that which Mr Hamill apparently argued against with futility .

Wearing Black = Darkside ? ... Snoke was bedecked in an extravagant Non - black robe !?

Oh baloney. Luke didn't "chop" his way through anyone. He just swung his saber at their weapons to knock the henchmen overboard or unconscious. Not even close to a flirtation with the Dark Side.

The only time he flirted with it, was when Vader threatened his sister. But even then, the flirtation lasted all of a minute, before he put a lid on his anger and let his virtue shine through again--sparing his father's life, and willing to die as a consequence.

He fired the deck cannon into the barge and blew the whole thing to smithereens, killing all aboard. :lol

So ? ... He’s also primarily responsible for blowing up the Death Star in Star Wars . Was he considered a Darkside Villain ( on par with Vader ) or Hero !?
They’re fighting a war . A ‘ Star Wars ‘ . There are casualties in war on both sides .

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

You beat me to it. Yeah, everything geddmac66 and the wook said. Luke only ever used force in Return as a last resort. He did wear black it’s true, but he also had white socks on so would never have turned to the dark side. See how crazy that sounds.

Who knows what Rian was thinking when he wrote the script because it didn’t make sense. When George spoke of balance in the force he meant by ridding the galaxy of the sith.

just though of one other thing. Luke didn’t sacrifice himself in the last Jedi. How would he have known the exertion would have killed him? He was probably more surprised than us that he died.

Okay, true. But he sure thought about it for a long time.

You see this clip should be a lesson for modern filmmakers whose films move at break-neck speeds and allow no extended down time for their characters, and viewers, to breathe.

Although, I must confess, I've not seen ROTJ in a while, and I don't remember the pace being quite this slow. I guess I'm being corrupted and conditioned by modern movies. Yuck.

Well played... :lol

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Didn't Kasdan say the idea was that Luke at the beginning of ROTJ was definitely toying with a dark side (choking out guys, appearing in black, trading droid lives) He still hadn't gone back to complete training, yet was calling himself a Jedi... and in early drafts that's what lead to him taking up vader's mask in the version George originally pitched.

I'm too lazy to look anything up right now... just faint memories jumping to mind.

"It's the last mistake you'll ever make" "Free us or die" Awfully aggressive for Jedi. Unless you subscribe to the 'Ends justify the means'. Which doesn't work with the Jedi. "If you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny". And let's not forget that when we first see him he's using the Force choke guards. This is a Dark Side power.

The color of a person's costume has quite often reflected their attitude. This why Anakin's Jedi robes are darker, and get darker, until he becomes Vader. If I recall Mark questioned George, he asked doesn't Luke's costume look alot like Vader's? And George said, that's the point.

Well he didn’t turn to the dark side did he. He saved his friends, saved his father and finished the emperor and then became a Jedi all dressed in black. I guess George was trying to subvert your expectations with clothing colour.

So you’re trying to prove the point you made in your #872 post ... Devils in the details ?

You’re going to have your interpretation of this character , his motivations etc ... , and I’ll have mine .

Just out of curiosity though , where are you sourcing your above information from re; Jedi powers denoting a side of the Force , and Conversations between Mr Lucas & Hamill ?
