Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm (after 2021)?

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

A movie franchise is only as strong as its last movie, and TLJ was not a strong movie. That is what I think is the primary reason why there was not more hype for Solo, and I don't think there would have been even if it had been marketed better. I think that the franchise as it is run now would need to produce a really good movie, and then the next movie after that could reap success.

The old Lucasfilm 1999-2005 had avoided that trap by making the franchise be more than the movies, but all walking in one direction. The movies were spaced out three years apart and in-between there were several books, video games and comic books, all spun off from the last movie leading to the next.
Those things helped make people invested in lead characters, even if the last movie was not very good. .. But not only the lead characters: every Jedi knight with a name had their own little fanbase. I mean... even Dave Filoni has a life-size statue in his office at Lucasfilm of a background character you can see for only a couple of seconds in the movie. At least one comic-book character was put into the movie because it had got a fan base.

Are there any video games, comics and spin-offs based on J.J's Star Wars timeline?
Is the franchise walking in one direction or is there a TV series, episodic movies and spinoff movies all in different time periods?

That was kind of what just didn’t sit right for me either. I had no problem with it being a woman, but when the helmet came off and it was practically a child, that’s when any believability of this big bad gang of pirates went out the window for me. Granted all the action happened before that but it made it seem like it was a farce. Maybe Ron was subverting my expectations too?

Yes It should have been a woman. Taking off the mask to reveal a child was just silly!

One has to stop and think why a particular film doesn't pass fan criticism. ... To me TLJ is nothing but criticism from start to finish. I don't see why anyone would want to degrade and make a mockery of the Skywalker story.
Yet it unfolds from the first scenes.

And your 100% correct that LFL needs to check itself and revisit 1977-1980 and make amazing films again.

It's about a guy, a girl, a bad guy, and a galaxy I'n trouble... oh and a droid or two.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

yeah if you look at the polls, it's still, on this forum 57% or so rating it "okay" to "great" with 28% at great.

"Disappointing" to "Bad" it is 43% with 21% at it was bad.. don't see it

It's divisive for sure... but these are also numbers from the Entertainment forum where for sure people are WAY pickier and are way more butt-hurt about things not playing out like it did with their action figures.

I`d love to see the results if that poll was wiped and taken today.:lol And from what I read of the people who have problems with TLJ dont think anyone has complained about having their childhood ruined, just unhappy about a terrible, terrible Star Wars movie. And as I said before people around the world didnt need to see anything about an official boycott, they were just so unhappy they obviously decided on their own to stay away.

Why is it always the same person that always whines about people and say they berate other people for having a different opinion when it never happens? Not you Neo Rutty btw. This constant one trick pony style of responding to criticism by use of over dramatic means is getting real old real fast. Its a poorly constructed method of artificially trying to make one group stand out against another and is a cheap form of baiting. I can only imagine the behavior described is exactly the same type of behaviour displayed about say the PT or more recent times,a thousand odd comments about Star Trek and is from personal experience. Will they never learn or have the ability to control themselves?

Well half the people say that's what's wrong with Star Wars.

There's no winning.

And Violet is a 16 year old who kicks ass.

And I'm stoked The Last Jedi won Best Screenplay at the Saturns.

Aside from my problems with Casino World, it's solid.

Some of my favorite lines are in this flick (and worst jokes :behave)

I think Rian did a great job with what he had, and I think he'll get better as a director (though to even steer a ship this big is something I don't think I could ever do).

I'm pretty sure if JJ had directed that script, it would have worked better overall... need someone who knows how to really push the "Spielberg" moments. The editing is mostly at fault there.

Hammil won a saturn for his role as well... which is great cuz Luke is my favorite part next to Rey and Kylo (some of the best stuff in the entire saga so far)

When it comes to two groups of people with differing opinions, arguing who's right, and who's wrong. It's important to remember that "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on." And "The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him."

Anyone else have to look up what The Saturn Awards were?

Never heard of them before and most definitely have never seen them referenced here once in all my ten years.

I'm more baffled that people on a site heavily influence by Scifi HAVENT heard of the Saturn Awards. It's been around forever and has been won by such people as Gene Roddenberry, Ray Harryhausen, and Rod Serling. Not like it's a secret society thing.

That being said, I'm equally baffled Rian Johnson won.....

Never heard of them and never seen them mentioned on this site before and if they hand out awards for terrible writing i wont be paying any attention to them in the future either.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Weird, I thought R1 was the best one since empire

I think I'm with you on that. For me it's ESB, ANH and then either R1 or TFA. I'd put ROTJ at #5 and then after that everything else I just don't even really care to rank. At this point there are 5 SW movies I'll continue to re-watch whenever I get a chance and 5 that I wouldn't really care if I ever saw again.

As for KK being fired, if that happens I would consider driving to Mt. Rushmore and chiseling Bob Iger's face onto it. He might not be a U.S. President, but he's President of Disney and that's close enough for me....especially if she's never allowed anywhere near another SW movie!
