Yes, another BTTF2 nike footwear bag build

UPDATE

Got some more progress yesterday on the end nozzle. I spent a good amount of time looking at reference pictures to figure out how the sliding door mechanism worked and it stumped me for a while but I think I have a good idea how itll work.

So I glued in a MDF ring on the inside of the nozzle so that when it goes over the main body it rests on that lip. That way I can glue it on the inside and then glue the clear panels on the other side of the lip of the nozzle.

I also hand “milled” a slot with my dremel that the sliding doors will slide in. I pretty much have to make the slot exactly 11mm deep or the doors wont be stay sturdy enough and be able to slide open and close properly. Hopefully this makes sense but heres some pictures to help show what I mean

Heres a rough mock up. Ill be molding the nozzle to make two of them. So far im pretty happy with the results. Its a little hard to tell how close it looks compared to the movie but im not complaining!

I'm sure on the HD version, you can see small ribs as well. Just be careful with your clearances. These can bind up pretty easy.

Yeah a little nervous about the clearance but it should go well. Just got to do alot of clean up with the end nozzle. Almost thinking about remaking it out of mdf but not sure yet

UPDATE

So basically spending alot of time refining the end cone. I gave it a coat of free form air to reinforce it and be able to sand it smooth without tearing away at the pink foam inside.

It still has alot more clean up and refining to do before i can mold it which im pretty nervous about. But if I have to make a dump mold to refine it some more then I will

I also roughed out the handle which only took me 10 minutes to do

Ill work on splitting it in half and then onto molding it!

Thats all for now but more progress will come soon!

Fantastic work. I truly admire good fiberglass work and wish I had learned that stuff. Maybe I should have paid more attention when my old man was making stuff from it. Back then, I just could not stand the itch from the matting or the smell of the polyester resin.

How much does that end cap weigh? It looks like a very thick part.

Yes, its such a pain to work with but you get pretty good results with it so its work it. It just takes time and patience to work with something every builder on here already has

As for the weight

It come to 369 grams so its not that bad. Although ill be casting these out of smooth cast 65D so im definitely sure that it come out heavier. So ill probably need to look into lighter materials or a combination of two.

Lighter than my epoxy casts of the same part. My parts seem to be about 100g heavier.

Yes. I believe its slightly wider in circumference and an inch longer than yours

How far can you open the lids?

I modded mine Today by cutting the body back from 180 degrees to about 160 degrees based on this screen shot.

That was where I was until this morning as well.

I quickly drew it up and noticed that my lids were 105 degrees when closed with the centre of the handle at 0 degrees. So there is a gap in between the two kids on the base.

By cutting the body down, my lids now touch at the base or the 180 degree pont.

Yeah, I noticed the gap with mine but didn’t think it was that much of a gap.

Looks like a V2 needs to happen immediately after this one

Do you own the MAGs? They fit in the bigger bag but it does require a jiggle to get them in. If the lids opened up as much as the VF bag, there would be no issues. I am going to finish the cast version soon.

Here is the difference between the two types I have done.

Ahh I see it now. That’ll make it easier to take the mags in and out of. I figured that would be an issue a little bit ago

It was something I thought about subconsciously ever since knowing how the prop worked. What is the stopping point on the lids? Is it the handle hitting the body or do the lids touch first?

Yet when I came to build it, I didn't give it a 2nd thought until I took a photo of the bag with the shoes inside. I initially though I had made the handle recess too big.

Watching the movie again and I noticed how far the movie prop lids opened and decide to investigate further.

That’s exactly what I thought with mine. I thought I made the handle recess to large. Here a pic of where my handles stop. Ignore how ugly it looks inside lol but yeah im really eager to cut it down so it opens more

So I just placed the lids in the closed position, drew a pencil line, placed some green 15mm painters tape on the "waste" side of the line and made my cut using a 5" angle grinder with the diamond wheel.

Turns out I got it just right. But as long as the lids still cover the side, it doesn't really matter.
