1/72 Hoth Echo Base Hangar diorama

EQlift.jpegOur friend Ged, correctly pointed out that this piece wouldn't be moving around well on a snow and ice floor with solid metal wheels, so I installed these tread tires donated from a 1/72 Hasigawa WW2 jeep.

echo floor1.jpegecho floor2.jpegfinally the wife moved her pictures to a different shelf...I set the base floor panel in the shelf hole and set some stuff on it. I think I'm going to have to add some front to back supports and pull it out and let it hang over the edge 3 to 5 inches. There's insufficient spacing between the falcon and the xwing. So that makes me think I won't be able to get everything I want, in there if left as is. I'd reckon I can screw some 1x1x27 or 28 to the shelf base to hold it up evenly. Then I thought I'd make some sort of a snowy, ice sickled ledge to cover the outward facing edge. sticking out from the wall 3 to 5 inches won't be an issue and I'll gain space in the back to do everything correctly.
Thoughts anyone?

Wow, that's a lot more expansive than I originally though

You could use a trick model railroaders use to simulate a much larger space by using forced perspective backdrops for opening into the other rooms

For example, you might have an arch off to the right of the Falcon that opens up into what looks like another room, but it is only a few inches deep and you have a photo backdrop of the rebel transport

hey Blakeh,

I suppose I could/should, but the alcoves will be like 4 inches deep and one may not see too much past the openings, but that's a solid idea. I will need to scratch those "vending machine" looking things that are set on the walls inside the alcoves, and light them with FO, but that's easy...I think. I'm basically just doing from the wall just behind the falcon going forward, so just the one room, and two alcoves on either side and not quite all the way to the shield doors. It'd be cool if I could, but with the shelf only being 2 feet deep there's only so much room to have it appear correctly proportioned. Also going to do (the best I can) the circular area of the ceiling above the falcon and simulate the light coming down. What a project huh :wacko

Oh, wow - you haven't seen Ady Sayce's (Adywan's) Empire Revisited? You won't be able to go back and look at Empire ever again. Every shot almost has a subtle tweak to it. It's...genius.

That's an awesome shot, one I don't recall seeing before. I reckon if I was doing all that, I'd need half my house...even at 1/72! Thanks for sharing that image my friend :thumbsup

Oh, yes, Adywan's ESB Revisited is almost an entirely new movie. He reshot most of the visual efx with models and miniatures himself, including building an entire asteroid canyon to fix the two TIES exploding as they chase the Falcon.

Here's a few of the miniatures he built for Echo Base, that in the film itself - are beyond stunning and lifelike.

Ok, I freely admit that sometimes I'm a little slow on the uptake, and this is one of those times. I googled that but don't see where it tells you the what, and how to see these re-edited movies. Could one of you point me in the right direction? Thanks :facepalm

Well, these were the original download links he provided when the file was first uploaded back in August last year. They are 5 MB pieces of a RAR file that you can unpack to get a raw HD MKV file you can watch with VLC or from a flash drive on blu ray player.

EDIT: actually - I just got your package in the mail this morning, so I already have your snail mail addy!

Let me know if these links are not working or if the download issue is a pain, and I'll grab a flash drive for you and dump BOTH Revisted movies (ANH & Empire) on them for you.
