Won day passes to the last Con (Wizard World PDX), and couldn’t resist the chance to take my kid (3 years old) to his first con. He got hooked on Ragnarok, and kept asking to be Thor, so my wife and I decided to take the two days to make him a costume. He loves it, and it was super simple, but figured I’d share.
After grabbin a few source pics, I dug into the fun foam I’d picked up for a yet unstarted project. I used one of his summer sleeveless shirts for sizing (three year olds are oddly difficult to measure in a small window of time allowed after work and before bed in two days). So, after getting a rough idea, I made a mock pattern and cut in.
Didn’t take a lot of pics pre cut. Used 4 large sheets of fun foam: 1 front, 1 for front details, 1 for lower back, and one connecting over the shoulders. Not a lot of add ons, but I painted two medium sized furniture pads for his two surviving armor disks.
My wife requested a micro velvet for his cape, and we used YaYa Han’s chainmail knit for the undershirt (cause he’s kid, and we weren’t letting him go sleeveless in the chilly northwest). My wife wife even dove in and gave him the Sakarran haircut (or at least the designs on the sides of his head). So here’s the finished product.
I know he was still totin’ Mjolnir around, but honestly, I think we can let that slide. Hope someone enjoys this as much as he did.
